Sooo... anyone ever look into building a B7 Diesel like the ones across the pond? Just wondering if anyone has checked into it?

Would you be doing it for fuel efficiency purposes?

Well, in theory, it probably wouldn't terribly diffucult to get the parts. New motor, new ECU (although you could probably run a standalone system), maybe a new front subframe (I'm not sure if they're specific to the motor). I think the trans could carry over (which means the drivetrain would stay the same and you wouldn't need new stuff). Exhaust you could alter here. The big part would be getting it certified to drive here. The Merc CDI's sold here have a urea injection system (specific to the US I think) so you would likely need to do something about that, but there is still a good chance you could never drive the car on the road as it would not pass inspection. And then again I might be talking out of my ass.

It'd be interesting. Shipping a motor over here wouldn't be a problem at all. Getting it inspected/certified would be the hard part. But dude, TDI A4 would be oh so sweet.

    Re: B7 Diesel

    I have just bought a 2005 2.0 TDI A4 S-line which is 140bhp, but I'll be remapping it to 180bhp after Christmas.

Here in Ireland I would say 70-80% of the A4s are diesels. I love the power and torque!!

across the pond i would bet a good majority of the cars there are either small petrol engine or diesels....

The B8 3.0TDI will be here spring of '09. I saw them at the Laguna Seca Le Mans races a couple of weeks ago. They had a bunch of them there promoting the mileage marathon.
