I heard that you have to replace these every so often. So my first question about them is what is the typical life span before you have to replace them and how can you tell if it needs to be replaced?

My car has a hyperboost DV and the guy who had my car i'm pretty positive never replaced it for the entire time he had the car. So i'm assuming i have about 30k miles on my current DV. It's been about a week since i got the car and when i bought it the DV sounded normal and made the "pshh" sound every time i let off the gas. And starting about yesterday night, or even this morning when i got in my car and drove to work, whenever i let off the gas i would hear the regular "pshh" followed by a short (about 1 to 1.5 second long) high pitched wine immediately after that starts out louder and slowly fades in volume until it's gone. But it's very short so the loud part of it is only the length of a beep, then it fades away. Like i said, this entire occurrence only lasts for maximum 1.5 seconds... maybe 2 if i push the pedal down more causing the DV to be louder. Is this a sign that it needs to be replaced?

Also i was curious as to which DV you would recommend. I hear a lot about the Forge 007, it seems to be a very popular one. But i was curious what you guys think is the best one for the money. And i don't want a BOV because i plan on getting an FMIC eventually anyway and i'd rather have functionality than the sound.

And in doing a search i read that the whining sound could possibly be a bad turbo as well. But what kind of whining would that sound like. Because i do hear a small whining sound that starts between 2000 and 2500 rpm's when i'm accelerating. It's not super loud and it doesn't really get louder it just starts up and stays constant until i shift and my rpm's drop below 2500 or 2000. The problem is i don't know if it has been doing this the entire time i've had it or if this just started. I really just noticed it today for the first time. And i thought it was just the turbo spooling since i heard that's around the rpm's in which the turbo starts to spool. But after searching for my DV problem i'm a little worried i may have a turbo replacement in my near future. I definitely don't want that to happen right now since i just got the car and i really don't have enough money for that. Can anyone help?

you dont need to change one (aftermarket) just to clean it, and grease it a bit.
    Hyperboost is ok.
If ur turbo sound like a dentist drill then its bad. Do u have a stock intake?

    Re: diverter valve

No i have an aftermarket intake. The guy put a simota intake in it. So that was the other thing i thought might be making that sound. Because from the description of a dentist drill i keep reading about i'm assuming it must be pretty loud. But it's not really very loud. It's noticeable though. I just can't tell where it's coming from. And like i said it starts between 2000-2500 rpm's which is why i assumed it was the turbo. And the turbo was already replaced under warranty during a regular service at the dealership according to the carfax. I forget at what mileage though.

But is the forge 007 better than my hyperboost? Because i would like the best one i can get. I'm trying to make everything perfect.

    Re: diverter valve

Than its fine, mine makes the same sound- that's why a lot of people put intakes-for the sound :))) Open your hood, ask someone to give it a gas and u will hear the same sound.
Forge 007 is good DV, but u wont feel any difference between this and the one u got.
    Just service yours asap.

    Re: diverter valve

I just swapped out my stock DV for the first time at 100k. I've been running APR stage 1 for the last 25-30k with the stock DV. I replaced it with the TT225 710N valve that works a little better with stage 1.

Hey that sound coming out of your car is proof that you have a turbo its fine. I personally love it! does anyone kno the difference you really feel by changing your diverter valve, what is the point of one and its function?

    Re: diverter valve

from my understanding the diverter valve, as opposed to a blow off valve, recirculates the pressure built up from the turbo. And by doing so it helps keep the turbo spooled? I think the idea being that letting off the gas is needed to shift therefore allowing the turbo to stay somewhat turning in order to keep boost at lower rpm's?? Someone correct me if i'm wrong.

    Here you go:
A compressor bypass valve (CBV), also known as a compressor relief valve or diverter valve, is a vacuum-actuated valve designed to release pressure in the intake system of a turbocharged or centrifugally supercharged car when the throttle is lifted or closed. This air pressure is re-circulated back into the non-pressurized end of the intake (before the turbo) but after the mass airflow sensor.

not that much of a difference felt. but they are needed if you are running anything higher than stock boost. the stock dv's are weak and will break if you run the car with a chip etc..
