well i go to school at u of a in tucson... the city of some of the worlds worst drivers. anyway i get to a stop light tonight, apparently there was a traffic cop that just stepped in at the light when he felt like it. anyway turns green 2 cars go, and stops the traffic, i was just at idle speed (i have an auto) and hit the ford explorer in front of me. nothing really happened to her but when i hit it fucked up my radiator, fans, hood, headlight, and whatever else i couldnt tell from the crash. anyway the car seized up and kept going into her car and then she eventually hit the escalade in front of her. everyone was fine, i didnt even get jerked forward, and of course the people in the escalade were acting like fools. cops an idiot cites me for failure to control speed, and then of course im stuck screwed.
    cliffs
traffic light with a cop directing when he feels like
light turns green, 2 cars go and he stops people
i hit the car in front of me, my car keeps going and wont stop
    she hits an escalade
no damage to the other two cars
escalade people were acting like jack asses

Not trying to be confrontational, but your car "seized up" and kept going, pushing an SUV into another car while idling?! I just can't accept that... Even if you had your foot FLOORED on the gas, brakes are more powerful and would stop the car if applied (obviously car would not be happy about this).

In any event, sorry to hear about the accident. I am quite surprised the cop cited you given the scenario. What a dick.

Sorry to hear about the accident but if you could not stop soon enough when the cop was directing traffic then you were probably following to close and should consider leaving more space between you and the car in front of you in the future. I'm no trying to be an ass or anything but just to give you some food for thought, in California it is always the persons in the rears fault when striking a vehicle in front of them. I don't know what the laws are in your state but they could be the same.

I'm pretty sure thats the law all over the US and most of the world (possibly excluding less developed social/legal countries). If you think about it, it would be pretty f'd up to blame someone for BEING hit by another! In essence punishing the 'victim' of the scenario.

possibly, but if we're both going 65mph on the highway, and im 6.5 cars behind, I'm pretty sure if you slammed the brakes to 0mph Id hit you

Very true - or hell, even if we are going 35 and you are 3.5 back. I suppose the natural assumption is people won't completely stop all of a sudden, obviously this theory is flawed.

Sorry to hear about your loss. Regaurdless the accident is entirely your fault. I hate cops with a passion, but something tells me the cop had some idea how to direct traffic to promote a safe, smooth flow if all drivers are paying attention. One wasn't...

You really think a cop standing in an intersection with a working light has "some idea of how to direct traffic to promote safe smooth flow?" It really doesn't sound like it to me.

first off i know its entirely my fault.
yes yes of course the auto was gonna come in, and i cant complain it was a good deal since i bought it from my dad since he got a co car when i was 17. anyway ya it actually happened. idk how the fuck it happened but me and my fridends in the car were baffled. it felt like we got hit from behind again. its like the initial hit, came to a stop, my foot was still slammed on the break obviously, and then it just went idk what happened but i didnt think that could be possible.

oh and on another note the cop was possibly one of the dumbes people i have ever met. he was a new cop, constantly asking the other ones questions, he didnt know the abbreviation for minnesota he said "MI??" and then he didnt think he was supposed to write down my license number, and he called today to ask if there was any girls in the car.
i wish he would have fucked all that up.
not to mention one time he randomly started yelling out numbers at me 5 7 10 35, apparently he was trying to ask how fast i was going, i told him 5-10 since i never hit the gas and then he repeated so around 20. wow only two cars had gone through the light, use common sense
