the trick is to stack about 3 2x4's on the jack before you lift it. making the car about 6 inches higher than normal. you could do 4 or 5 if you want. the car starts to lean over a lot though.

I have two aluminum floor jacks and use one on each side, to raise the car, first one end, then the other. Makes it easy and it's faster and safer than using only one jack.

and remember , lift each corner bit by bit, you don't want to go max height and put a jack stand under and then try to go to the other side and jack up. One the jack might not fit on the other side and two car will fall.

i also put wood under the tires once its at its max height for that "what if"

also once its all the way up. give the car a good side to side shake to make sure everything is fully planted.

the pic doesnt show it, but on some of the tires i have this big square cube of wood that will prevent ANY mishap.

trust what you trust, but these things draw the line between DIYers and take it to your mechanic'ers

Re: is there a trick to this?

^^ if i were to put the car up like that and shake it, i would trust it. Cause if you can't even make it fall by shaking it, how is it supposed to fall on it's own? Also i would put the e-brake on and stack cinder blocks under the wheels just in case.

I should have added that I place proper jack stands under the car after jacking up each end! But I assumed that was clearly implied.Sorry for the confusion.
