    Fuel Filter/Pump Help Please

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi everyone,

Just replaced my fuel filter today becasue I was hearing a small whining sound coming from the rear of the car at certain times. Now with the filter replaced, just before I crank the car on I hear a loud screeching sound coming from the rear of the car - once the car cranks and turns on the sound fades away and dissapears completely. Should I go ahead and replace the fuel pump next? I have checked with Audi and my car is not part of the recall. Should I drive the car like that? does anyone have a good DIY for the fuel pump replacement?

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks
    Oz

You can try opening up the tank and cleaning the fuel pickup screen too. Follow these directions for replacing the fuel pump.

Thanks for the reply and link - actually - after I was all done with the rest of my maintenance, I started the car again and filled up on gas - seems since I was really low on gas and on ramps - the pump was making the noise - now the car starts right up without any issues at all!

    Re: Fuel Filter/Pump Help Please

i had the same issue when i replace my filter. What i think was the issue was that when u replaced the filter, that introduced air into the lines and when you turned on the engine, that air circulated through the lines to the pump, causing the pump to make the noise. Once the car has been on for a little bit (or it has been turned on and off a couple of times), the air is released and only fuel is pumped through the lines. Thats the only thing that I could think of for why the sound was there after the change.
