    ECT question (well CEL actually)

so I pulled codes for me on and off again CEL, indicates it's the ECT. Now here;s my question .... I'm trying to narrow down the possibilities without replacing everything as indicated in the Bentley. So It is very sporadic that it comes on. Seems to be only after the engine has been running for an extended period of time. Here;s the weird part. If the ECT sensor is bad then why does the CEL come on only when it seems to be colder out. Example it was 30 here the other AM I let the car warm up before work and by the time I got out to the car and was on the road for 5 minutes it was on, but yesterday it was almost 60 out and nothing the entire ride home. Wouldn't it make more sense to have it come on when it is warmer out? Or is this just because the sensor itself is bad and just throws the signal? I was really low on coolant so I re-upped and that worked for about a day or two now it's right back to normal. I've looked and 12v.org and got the schematics for pulling it, anyone done this and what am I looking at for tools.... OH and anyone have the part num for the sensor? TIA all.

Well if the sensor is faulty it will act wierd. Just change it, and your problems will be solved.
