What does Audi spec for trans oil?

I must say this is the first car I have owned that does not have drivetrain fluid specs listed in the owners manual. I suppose you need to buy the service manual to get that info? cmon!!!

    Re: manual transmission oil

So the Amsoil site says to use a GL-4 75W-90 gear oil on the trans and diff(s). I guess it has both a front and rear diff?

I thought the center diff / transfer case was all part of the trans - is that not true? Is it a separate unit?

The amsoil site makes it sound like there is both a center diff and a transfer case - one takes GL-4 like the trans / diffs, and the other takes AT fluid.

    Does that make sense?

I am thinking I may need to get a service manual so I know for sure what goes where.

    Re: manual transmission oil

I did the rear diff fluid this weekend.

Interesting that the Amsoil site shows the MT rear diff capacity at 4pints, which is 2 quarts. And the AT rear diff capacity at 3.2 pints, which is about 1.5 quarts. Mine only took 1.5 quarts.

So maybe there is only one diff on these cars, and 3pints is the correct capacity?

anyway - I'm sure it was full, and I even double checked what came out and it was the same 1.5 quarts.

I picked up some Amsoil GL-5 75W90 synth oil to put in the trans - I wasn't sure the capacity, so I picked up a gallon container. I'm sure it will go to good use eventually even if I don't use it all now.

The tips are that way, they have separate gear cases from the automatic transmission part.

Finally, I have been waiting to find this out and have had a minute to lift the car and look.

So, the tiptronics have the trans that takes ATF then a seperate center diff that takes different fluid.

I imagine the center and rear diffs would take the same fluid, then???
