    Sorry for the title of the post. My S just took a shit. The S is a newly installed stg 3. About the shop that did the install, they do not know what they hell they are doing. Wish I knew that before hand, too late now.
    So here is what happened:
    This is the second time I took the S out for a test run. First time was just around the block about 4 miles total. No real problems. This time I went down to the gas station (3 miles away) then on the way home the boost was going up to 18-20 psi then all of a sudden a very loud pop sound, I mean loud. The car all of a sudden lost power, luckily I was able to roll on to my street. I tried to start the car back up but it would just try to run then die out. It would rev up for a second then just die out again. I tried to check for any codes but nothing pulled up. Also tried to check if any of the intercooler hoses, y pipe hose, and where the DVs are. All of them are still connected. The parts where can see the inlets look like they are still connected.

    I you guys have any ideas what it could be or what I should do, I really would appreciate it. The car has been in the shop for 6 months. In the last year I have only put on 2k miles on the car. From when I picked it up from the shop (stg3-) drove it home 150 miles then installed the fueling kit and only drove it the amount I said above. I am pretty sure the shop did not know anything about our S4's. There is alot more about the shop though that is very negative....SO I thank you guys again for your time to read this.

    Smoke? Leaking anything? How many miles had you put on the K04s before hitting 20 psi? Sounds like they weren't completely broken in considering that kind of boost IMO....some may disagree that it's not necessary to break in a non ball-breaking turbo but I think it's a good idea to wait a bit before going WOT

    Then again maybe things just weren't installed correctly...

    Did notice some smoke from when the pop happened, it is not leaking anything underneath the car. I put on about 157 miles, the shop I believe put on 150 miles when it was stg 3- (so-called test drive).

    The more I think about it breaking in the K04 isn't necessary, so that's probably not your problem :)

    You did see smoke though? Was it thick white smoke or- ?

    Sorry I was just so shocked that it happened, I mean I fricken sucks in the last year the car has had about 25k worth of work done to it. So I was to caught up in the moment of what was happening to notice. I just remember seeing some white smoke not a huge huge amount. But wouldnt the car still start thoug? Thank you for helping me.

    When my turbo exploded and when i say that i mean it. Everything inside went to hell, it made a loud pop but i was able to drive the car a couple blocks and the car started every time i turned the key.

    It's cool dude I understand the pain :)

    I hope things work out for you...it could be something less serious than a blown turbo...maybe somebody else will chime in with more ideas.

    Charge pipe on the compressor popped off? that could cause it to die. Uber boost leak. And that would explain the popping noise, too.

    Yeah, I mean some/a lot of them are still driveable...but it's possible that the twisted blades get blown into something where it would cause startup problems...

    Are, you sure the turbo blew? Try to start it with the MAF unpluged, I think one of your intercooler pipes poped off, so you have a massive boost leak.

    Check your piping from each turbo to the IC's then IC's all the way up to the TBB.

    Pressure test with a boost leak indicator.... It's hard as fahk to get to the pipes on the turbos... especially after he's been driving it, especially at night. It's still a HIGH possibility.

    I will double check it again tomorrow, But I am almost positive the IC hoses and tbb is all connected. Should I do the suggested, and unplug the MAF. The first thing I thought of was that my intercooler piping blew off, I guess it was just high hopes that was it. I guess I need to figure out how to make a pressure tester (Ill seach, should not be hard to find at all). There was a guy on AZ selling one for $25 shipped. Saves me time, so busy with some big projects with the biz.

    Also Gmann you said it could be the charge pipe, Can someone verify which pipe that is sorry, noob. Again thank you to everyone. Reps to all. This is why I still love AZ.

    I am sorry but I left out some big info, I think. When I picked the car up he took me for a test drive and when he was under WOT and at peak boost there was a sound. The sound was like...... if you mixed a siren with a horn. Only when under hard boost. Dont know how much boost because the shop owner did not know how to log psi with his own VAG COM. But he left the ecu setting in the GIAC pump program, after asking him and hm telling me he returned it back to stock setting. When I asked him how he switched it back he could not answer me. So I downloaded the GIAC switcher program and changed it back to the stock program for the drive home.

    Will, sounds like you had a boost leak, before the pop. Just unplug the MAf and report back. Chances are that's your problem, and there is an easyway to find out. If not, let us know

    Diverter Valves blown maybe? That wouldn't cause you such major problems, but that honking sound under full boost would happen... The more i read the more I'm thinking massive boost leak... Have you changed out the stock dv's?

    Thanks, I will unplug the maf and then double and triple checks the hoses. I have the stock 710a's but I have a spare set of n's I will also put that in. Hope I will find the problem. And I had no problems with the maf sensor before I switched the upgraded housing, but you never no with these cars. I will report back with an update. Have a good one guys.

    check the lower IC piping too, those always come off.

    LOL, it was @ 6AM eastern you responded. On a SATURDAY, I wasn't even dreaming of waking up then

    But yes, charge pipe = IC piping. The weird horn/siren noise... think of it this way, blow up a balloon and squeeze the ends of the opening and pull apart, noise similar to that but different tone and amplified. Correct? That is the sound or air smacking rubber/silicone hoses as it squeezes past. Hope I helped

    Take the lower grills out and check the lower IC pipes--I had the same symptoms as you, and that was where the hose came apart. But as others said, if you unplug the MAF, and it runs, you know that it is a massive boost leak...

    do you have an upgraded throttle body boot? see if that poped off, if it hasnt take it off anyway to physically check for cracks. I think its an IC hose as well its happened to me a few times. you may want to head to an autoparts store and get some new hose clamps. T-bolt ones are the best IMO.

    im probably gonna go with your dv's blew... put the N1's in a take it for another test drive. If it still feels dead then you have a MASSIVE boost leak somewhere and the best way to tell is pressure/smoke test/

    Here is a quick update, This morning before heading to one of our project sites, I went and unplugged the MAF sensor. Started up fine and drove in to my garage (the car was only 5 houses down from mine). The car smoked real bad but had no time to check anything out. I just got back home and took off the side grills and I cant see anything because of the IC shrouds. So I guess I need to take off the plastic piece under the front bumper to see the hoses. I will also install the other Dv's. Thanks for everyones help. Oh and for some reason I tried repping everyone that has helped but it stopped me and said I have given to many points in the last 24hrs.lol. Ill be back in a bit.

    sounds like a blown turbo....the siren noise, the smoke, ect.....sucks, but you need to have the shop to replace it under their dime, fuck that 100+ mile test drive bullshit....I would have blown the shop up.

    ^^What he said take that shit back and have them deal with it. I work at a shop and my boss would tell me to fuck myself if i told him i have to test drive the car for 150 miles. If i work on a big project i would go drive the car for 30 to 45min max than pull it in and check everything over and if it's good give it a thums up and call it a day. What you described sounds like a blown turbo, they probably didnt fit the oil lines right.

    Sucks to hear your car is crapping out on you. If I were you I would fly someone down to look over your car and see what is up. Or you could just move to Oahu and have Thomas look at it.

    Okay here is an update: Went out to take the under tray off. And what falls down with it, IC hose clamp. So I put the hoses back on tightened everything back up. Oh I checked the other hose clamps and they were all NOT tightened. I put in the new DV's (710n's). Then went for a test drive. Did not boost to much because I do not know how correct my boost gauge is since I do not know how or cant log with my Vag set up I have. The car ran okay, I can def hear the turbos spooling up. I did the darintake mod but I do not think you should here it spooling up as loud. I like the sound but I should not be hearing them right? I am pretty positive that they did some things wrong.

    Okay about me taking it back to the shop, I will list some things why I will not let them touch my car again.
    -Took 6 months to finish
    -Still having problems
    -Lied about a bunch of things, wont get into too much detail
    -AC no longer get cold, they charged me for a recharge
    -Ordered part with out permission
    -Modified parts which should have not been modified
    -Said negative things about the quality of parts I had bought for him to install and the vendors that sold them(our forum vendors,wont name names)
    -Installed my clutch and flywheel against the way a lot of people on here said to do and the shop foeman of Audi LV
    -Missing bolts throughout the car, body fasteners
    -Ordered, modified, and installed parts that I specifically told him not to touch
    I can keep on going, but I hope you guys see where I am coming from.

    The S has been just a fu car not a DD, but all this headaches this shop has given me has taken the joy of owning it. Please don't get me wrong the S still has a soft spot in my heart. I mean there a very few S4's out there that has as much new OEM parts as I do. And next week it goes into the body shop to fix the scratches the shippers made when I brought the car down to hawaii.

    And ///M3 about blowing up there shop, ummm no comment This is not the first time he has ripped people off. Just no one know any different. There is another guy with a S4 that they charged 800 something to fix a boost leak and they didn't even fix it. They gave it back to him with a bill and said sorry we could not figure it out. So we are talking with our lawyer monday and some other people that have influential positions in the community.

    I cant thank all you guys enough for the help with this situation. Also would like to thank all the vendors that I bought parts from. I will do a finish post when the car is back in good shape with pics and names of the vendors. Thanks again AZ.

    I dont think it sounds like a blown turbo. Also the fact that it works with the Maf unplugged is real typical of a massive boost leak.

    Will don't worry man, that sounds 100% like a lower charge pipe blew off going to the intercooler or on the other side.

    that high pitched horn sound you heard is air escaping from the charge pipes under pressure, I had the exact same thing.


    When you had the pop, was it like a PPPPPOOOOhhhhhhhh!! ?

    Thats exactly what mine sounded like when it bew off my car once, and was pre ceded by the same real high pitched horn, siren sound.

    (edit) Looks like you found the problem! Good deal! Now whats the name of this shop, did I miss it?

    Thanks boris, I think I posted the same time as you.lol. And I didnt mention the name of the shop. I will when I get everything settled. I am not to worried about someone else going to them, there are just a hand full of audi owners on this island. Will be making NorCal my main place of living early 09.

    The problem you now face is that since something as simple as clamps not being done would really concern me in the long run / what else they didn't do correct.

    What about taking it to another shop and having the first shop cover the costs?
