I get around 270 or so, normal commuting, but I don't let it get completely empty; i.e., about 19+ mpg.

I'm not sure what's the matter with your car but I'd consider getting the fuel filter replaced if you haven't already. New spark plugs at 30k too.

If you're getting the same mileage no matter what you do then it sounds to me like what you get in the city is the max your car can do given whatever is wrong with it. Others will opine with what is the matter but that's my suggestion regarding the matter.

Re: 200 miles to a tank of gas WTF

    Multiple factors...

    how heavy are your wheels?
Do you have a boost leak?
What custom exhaust do you have? Do you have the necessary back pressure?
Are you using 91 or higher octane?
When was the last time you replaced your injectors? Air filter?
Are there tons of hills where you drive?

Re: 200 miles to a tank of gas WTF

I get 240 miles per tank when I drive mixed...when I baby the car, I'll get 300 - 340, almost got 350 in the summer, but had to concentrate on the road a lot more. I also do a good amount of coasting in neutral.

Mammoth to LA, all hwy, I'll get 340 miles per tank easy.

If I baby it, I'll get 85 miles per quarter tank.

Chevron gas ONLY, and 91 at that.

I average about that too but was expecting It before I bought the car. Hahah Research Helps.

stick to 91 it's only 2-3 bucks difference to a full tank. Dont do that to the poor thing. You spent the money for a nice car so treat her nice and give her some good gas.

Gas mileage doesn't affect my wallet at all whatsoever. I expected that going into this purchase. I only have to fill up about once a month.........lol

Sounds like you'll only get madder as you realize that you didn't research thoroughly enough into the matter of buying a nice V8 powered German car. First of all, they don't get good gas mileage. Secondly, the car will only get madder when you put lower octane fuel than is recommended. Careful, it does matter!

Seriously why would you not put super in? Maybe its because all ive owned besides this has been turbo cars but I couldn't imagine putting regular in my cars.

i'm in almost the exact same position as channad.

340 if i baby the hell out of it and run it dry. Generally drive a bit more spirited though, and tend to get 250-280 a tank... 93 octane these days though.

I drive about 80% freeway (80mph average), 20% city normally. I'm generally around 230 -240 miles per tank on 91 octane (all that's available here). I've squeezed out 270 before babying it, but that wasn't a very fun tank..

The bottom line is if you are getting 210 to a tank then you should have a perpetual grin on your face, if not the go get a 1.8 or 2.0 a4. The car is going to give you on average a little over 200 miles to tank.

My dad somehow gets 330 a tank 100% in his RS4, i don't understand how. It's not how he drives either because on a full tank i have gotten as high as 340 in the RS4. My record for the A4 is 460 on a long highway trip, RS4 record is 370 on a long trip under 5k rpms the whole time.

Re: 200 miles to a tank of gas WTF

i get very poor mileage myself. According to the car's computer, it does 11.8 total mpg. In a week, i will drive approximately 10 miles. I noticed, the nearer distances i drive, the less mpg i get. The farther i drive, the better the mpg. i know, its a no-brainer, but one would think by driving shorter errands, you would get better mileage since the car is being used less.

the most i've gotten out of my car is about 270 (440km) on highway trips.
average city driving is usually about 230 (370km) - i don't dare let the fuel tank get too low anymore.

what is the consensus on intake/dp/exhaust? I want to know if this improves fuel economy or decreases it? I'll never take mine off, it feels more powerful and sounds good, but just out of curiousity?

naah...normal is about 16 mpg in mixed driving...about 240 miles per tank.

    p.s. what's a 19" dub? thought 20" was a dub.

If you are varying how you drive, and you are still getting the same gas mileage, then yes, maybe something is wrong.
