    Bulbs, bulbs and more bulbs

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I tried to search the forum to find my answer before I put this up because I'm sure to get some ridicule out of this, here it goes.

I don't have enough money to upgrade my headlights to proper HID. I just want to replace my stock headlight bulbs with something a lot brighter. I know it uses the H7 but I don't know which brand and model to get. (PIAA, Sylvannia, Xenon....) So many out there. Can anybody help me out?

Please don't make too much fun of me.

Re: Bulbs, bulbs and more bulbs

To be honest, i don't know how much to spend. I know it's going to cost quite a bit for just the bulbs. I want to change my low and high beams and maybe fog lights also. I'm assuming I'll probably be paying around $100 to $200. Whats the average price for HID's and bulbs? My brother got some for cheap but they always go out. That's why I'd rather wait until I have money for a good set. But I just can't stand this "amber" color stock bulbs I have. They Suck!!

On my car i have HID's on my High and Low beams and Fogs lights. Right now im looking to buy DEPO headlights and they come with the HID's already so i would sell you my 3 sets of HID's if you want just shot me a PM. I paid a total of 450 for all 3 and they have been in my car for about 1 month.

They work awesome and i'll take pics if you need.

Re: Bulbs, bulbs and more bulbs

The main thing about HID's is that I don't want to have to modify the headlight housing to fit them. I know there are some kits that you don't need to. I currently don't have money for your HID's AWDTURBO. Sorry. I'm going to check out the Philips and the VME's. But I think the VME's is what my brothers had and they had to change their ballast box several times. One is on a B6 A4 and the other is a 2000 GTI VR6.

Re: Bulbs, bulbs and more bulbs

i got my h7 colored bulbs from luminics.com. good service and pricing.

Lowbeams: Pure Blue, $35 plus shipping
Fogs: JDM Yellow, $30 plus shipping
    Highbeams: stock, n/a

75 bucks shipped recieved after 2 days iirc. from what i have heard, the vvme is cheap and effective, but takes up to 1-1.5 months to get them because they ship from china. they are also susceptible to loose wiring causing them to cut out in 1 or both lights. i am very happy with my bulbs and many people mistake them for hid. the lowbeams alone are not spectacularly bright, but the yellows make up for it. when they are both illuminated, they cancel out and produce white light. i love cars with good paint and wax because i can see the reflection of my lights in them while i drive. i would have preferred if my car had stock hid's but to retrofit them would be too much money and hassle. I'd rather spend that money somewhere else, either on bills or other mods. very happy with my bulbs. hope this helps.

why would you want 55w? I'm sure it wouldn't hurt anything but it would be smarter to go for the cheaper 35W.

I would keep the 55W set. The stock halogen H11 bulbs are also 55W so you won't have to worry about bulb-out warnings or flickering lights.

I know this is a scrub question, but what is the difficulty of switching lights? What would I have to do, like take out the housing and the bumper or something?

i have really small hands, so i was able to change my bulbs with out unscrewing anything... but im sure ur hands are bigger than mine, so its way more tedious

Simon, get the bulbs you need, and come to the Audi meet in irvine this sunday (16th), and ill do my best to get them in for you :)
its posted in the socal section if you need more info on the meet.

I'm a little confused on why its bad to be putting HID's in a halogen housing, considering that some cars come stock like this, the prius, aviator etc...
