My C5 A6 was the first 2.7T car to have a Wotbox. I worked closely with the guys at N2MB to figure out the install and what wires to tap, etc. There was some trial and error but we got it working pretty quickly. I have since helped a couple S4's with the install. The pics and how-to on their website were all created with my feedback. That being said, I will share some thoughts...
It will improve your times. No doubt. It helped get my 2 ton A6 into the 11's by running an 11.8 @ 119. Thats with K04s, Stage 3+ SSP Tune (FTW!) and a stock motor with 109k on it. The launch takes some getting used to and perfecting the rpm setting and clutch release. But it's great. And your first no-lift shift will feel incredibly strange to not lift off the gas, but every one after that is like sex. You can watch the boost gauge barely drop in a shift. And you can see it hold 10-11 psi during launch. Truth be told, this thing does every bit of what it claims.
Flames wise- When I first started running it I was spitting flames like crazy on every hard shift. I never got them at launch with just 2 step but I have seen TommyGunn's S4 get that after we installed his. It depends on the tune. This last run to the track, went to MIR Monday, I was running faster but not popping or spitting flames much at all. But there had been a few re-tunes between and I also replaced all my coil packs so I may be burning in the cylinder better. Also, the between shift flames are more determined on how long of an ignition cut you program it for. The base setting is 350ms I think. That means that for 350ms fuel is still squirting into the engine and not being burnt. So once ignition is back on it ignites that much extra fuel and blows it out the back. Can't see it being good for many parts on the car but its not like you WOT shift all day. Hell, driving hard in the first place is not 'good' for the car.. Basically, once you really get the shifting down, try to lower the cut time as much as you can. One of the guys from N2MB said he has driven it set to like 50-75ms. That is some really fast shifting... I think I am running like 225ms now.. No flames this last time to the track.
Launch wise- don't do a lot of it, but its awesome when you do. I have a feeling it was a contribution to why I killed a CM Stg 3 Kevlar clutch in a little over 6k miles. I now have the Vast ceramic hybrid and it held up nice except a 4 run hot lap. But I imagine most clutches wouldn't hold well after 4- 1/4 mile runs with WOT shifting and 2-step launching.. But the last run the heat in it made it slip a little. Been fine since and made it home to NY from MIR ok.
End result, the thing is an awesome little box. It's a ton of fun and will have nice effects on your times. As with any new product there will be some 'guinea pig' factor. Trial and error should be expected. And its a race-purpose product. Using anything intended for racing on a daily basis will of course take a toll on your car.
And now the video of the Wotbox helping my pig run 11.83 @ 119
