    POWER PULLEY??? Good investment?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Has anyone experienced this mod, I found the pulley kit after speaking to a friend who just did one on another type of car, said it pulls great now

POWER PULLEY KIT - 2.0T FSI

Your car's power steering pump and alternator are powered by a belt connected back to the crankshaft pulley. Spinning these pulleys draws precious horsepower from your engine. NEUSPEED's powertrain engineer, using sophisticated CAD software, performed a mass properties analysis of the crank pulley. The result is reduced parasitic drag on the engine and increased horsepower. This kit includes a new crankshaft pulley and shorter belt.

Like our other NEUSPEED Power Pulleys, the new crankshaft pulley is made from 6061 T6 aluminum and hard anodized for durability. Unlike color anodizing which is mostly cosmetic, hard anodizing builds up a hardened layer over the base material to prevent wear.

    Notes
    5 - 7 horsepower gain.

    Actual part shown in photo.

    Re: POWER PULLEY??? Good investment?

When it comes to 5-7 horsepower gains (from K&N's or Pulley kits), I truly think that any differences you notice are purely psychological. Such little improvement really only equates to tenths of a second in performance, which really isn't worth a damn unless you're in competition with equal cars.

That being said: if you are planning on performing more mods to your car, then a Pulley Kit is a nice addition to a complete package of mods. But if you're not looking to make major mods, or not planning on investing a significant amount of money in performance mods, then No minor mods like pulleys are not worth it.

10ths of a second in what? a 10 mile race? not worth it.

quarter mile? i doubt the pulley will give you a 10th of a second difference in the quarter mile with only 5hp/5tq gain. you'd probably get more gains from emptying your car of dead weight (passenger seat, floormats, spare tire, etc)

exactly. the minimal gains you get from a pulley is not worth it. you put stress on the motor, and all of the other belt/pulley driven components in the car. i have no experience with a pulley and this car in particular, but i've seen/heard horror stories on many other forums where people have had things go bad.

Interesting......I heard its not bad to replace the one pulley, but its when you go replace all the pulleys, the engine take a beating..

the one pulley still affects all of the other ones. some people get a lightened pulley, which is still the same shape, yet due to the lighter weight, alleviates some of the effort and power loss each time the pulley rotates.

"good investment"? it's your car, and if a maximum possible 5 crank hp (despite the possible consequences) is a good investment to you, then by all means get it. personally, i think you'd feel more power emptying out your trunk, floor mats, and getting some lightweight 18" wheels

actually, one of the best investments you can buy is high performance driving lessons at your local track. and it should cost way less than a pulley + install

    Re: POWER PULLEY??? Good investment?

Even if it does realize 5hp, I prefer to stay away from aftermarket pulleys, especially a crankshaft pulley. If they aren't balanced well, it can do some serious damage in the long run, maybe even short term.

    Re: POWER PULLEY??? Good investment?

Does the stock pulley have a harmonic dampner?

If it does, any aftermarket pulley can result in premature crank wear/failure. -tvieira24
THIS IS THE MAJOR QUESTION. Its also the most important and valid question yet to be answered.
