thanks... maybe I should have been more clear.

I dont want to replace the stock sub, i want to add an aftermarket sub/amp. Is there a DIY for adding an after market sub and amp?

thanks..let me know if you find anything else :)

I'll refrain from being a complete dick only because I'm happy I just found my McKrackin' Plumbers costume (Nothing to do with Joe the plumber).

I'm going to assume you don't have the RNS-E and have one of the symphony units.

You need a LOC (Line Out Converter) to do this.

You will tap the wires going into the Sub, feed them to your LOC, then use the low-level outputs from the LOC into your amp, then your amp to your subwoofer.

There are a billion threads on how to do this out there. You just need to search. It doesn't even need to be for the same car, the procedure is still the same.

I tried searching as well, and lots of people don't know either.. your explanation helped a lot though, but I just have a few questions!

Which wires from the LOC go into the Sub? There are 4 wires, 2 with stripes and 2 solid colors. I believe once those are tapped, then RCA wires from the LOC to the Amp, then wiring from Amp to Sub.. I understand all that, but I just don't understand which of the 4 wires gets tapped into the stock Sub connections? Thanks for all the help thus far.. I hope you can help me and the OP even more!

What LOC are you using? You should only be tapping the + and - going into the sub and hooking them up to the appropriate place on the LOC. Look at the documentation that came with it, it should tell you what's up or there should be markings on the unit itself.

If you actually open the rear parcel shelf and look at the sub you will see the + and - wires. Make sure you have a DMM to check polarity, because I don't know which is which.

Those wires are your positives and grounds, meaning that you have a two channel LOC.

    Re: DIY for sub/amp install?

some line out converters are set up for separate left and right, and have 2 sets of RCAs.

since your sub will be mono, it doesn't matter, just make sure that the lines are the same color, and correspond with the rca output you're going to use for the amp.

as long as you tap into the wires that go to your factory sub, you should be able to still control your bass levels through your headunit.
