Not to burst your bubble, winterizing means to have a battery, oil pad, and sometimes a transmission pad heater on your car. And if you had any other car but an audi 1.8T, an engine plug heater.

The bizzaks are awesome though. It's like day and night when you're on ice and hardpacked snow.

^ maybe in Alaska haha (didn't even see you were from Alaska, typed that before i looked!)

In NJ, snow tires and a snowboard rack is a perfect setup for winter

Winter tires make a huge difference... I had the same rims / tires (mine were 225) last year!

Just to help you next time you go shopping for snow tires:

It's better to go with the smallest width tires as possible (205 or 215's in your case depending on the amount of stretch you want). This allows for more traction because a greater amount of the vehicle's weight is put onto a smaller area. This will help your car stick to snow and ice better.

It's not about sticking it's about cutting. 195/65/15 is ideal winter setup and I would say "Winterforce" over Blizzak.

Meh, 1 Nokian for the price of 4 Winterforce tires. When the tire people who live in Tahoe snow recommended the Winterforce over the Nokian (the WGR2's were not on the market 3 years ago) I was skeptical, but after being in my car with the Winterforce and and another B5 in Tahoe with Nokians I can honestly say they were comparable.

Daily life for 8 months of the year:)

They heat the fluids to prevent them from thickening up in the extreme cold. I wish I had one sometimes. My car is the only one in our family without one, and it's also the only one to not start after -50 wind chills.

Interesting. I'll look into them when I need winter tires again. I'm a poor college student so this could help me save some money.

BTW, your car looks awesome in the snow in those pictures.

Only if your concerned about the initial carbon release at the time of start up. -10 isn't that bad once in a while, if you're concerned i would start it up every 4 hours and will be totally fine. I only plug in if it's below 0 or if I know it's gonna get cold over night. And I have mine on a timer to save electricity.

Here it's a must since it will get 45 below or colder about 3-4 times a winter and -20 below frequently.

2 of the top 3 locations for annual snow accumulation averages occur in California's Sierra's. Mammoth and Tahoe with the Wasatch range in Utah beating them both out slightly for yearly seasonal avg.

    Re: Winterizeddd!

I always was under the impression that downstate NY got hardly any snow. I used to live in the Buffalo area, and we had to winterize our cars. I still put on my snows and steelies, even though I only get about 4-6" max here in NE MO. We just get ice, and on occasion, negative temperatures.

Winterforce over Blizzak LM series - maybe. But over the Blizzak WS-50 and WS-60 series with their "Tube Multicell" compound - NO WAY. There is a reason why the Winterforce is Bridgestone/Firestone's discount winter brand. used to be Dayton. Gotta compare apples to apples... You're bang-on about it being about cutting, not sticking. Narrow as you can get a tall enough series for to keep the outer diameter the same is the best set-up. Good call.
