MERCEDES SEMA VEHICLES REVEALED
October 30, 2008
After much anticipation Mercedes has released photos of the four modified GLK vehicles it will present at the 2008 SEMA Show.
Of the most interest to MLE readers (no doubt) will be the Brabus and RENNtech vehicles. The Brabus GLK Widestar is a classic German twist on a new German vehicle and very much suits the rest of the company’s lineup. It also would look at home in a Mercedes-Benz dealership.
It is powered by a 3.0-liter V-6 Bluetec diesel engine, which, one can assume has a Brabus ECU modification to pump out a reasonable 258 hp and an exciting 450 ft-lbs of torque.
As for the RENNtech vehicle, well, it is certainly as wild as the company promised. The matte-red RENNtech Rally Racer is inspired by the Pikes Peak Hillclimb and features a hybrid drivetrain that using both a gasoline engine and an electric engine that RENNtech engineers designed themselves.
As for the other two creations, Florida-based Boulevard Customs has designed an Urban Whip-themed GLK, with massive 26-inch wheels and a serious stereo system and Legendary Motor Cars has built a Four Corners Rock Crawler, which apparently has a winching system that can propel wakeboarders and skate boarders. The SUVs side rails are also intended to be grinded on by skateboarders.
All four GLK Design Concepts will be on display at the 2008 SEMA Show from November 4-7 and everyone will be invited to choose their favorite by logging on to a website (address yet to be disclosed) and vote.
