    Transmission

Today I started my car and put it in reverse and the car jerked really bad. Same thing when I put it in gear. I turned the car off and waited a few minutes and tried again and the same thing happened. This time I noticed on the LCD display that the PRNDS display was highlighted in red. When I tried to drive the car it stayed in first or second gear. I called the dealership and they made me drive the car to them, only about 2 miles. The service department was closed so I left it there overnight but I have no idea what is wrong.

    It is a 2004 S4 tiptronic.

Any help would be appreciated. And any tiptronic hate should be kept to a minimum ;).

Also I will be getting a loaner from them tomorrow. How do I make sure I get another audi and not a rental voucher for a pos?

    Re: Transmission

The highlighted PRNDS means that your car is in limp mode threw the trans.

I would obviously also say check the trans fluid but you need to be under the car for that.

Try to go out and disconnect the batt for 10min that should reset it.

If you cycled the ignition more then once and the PRNDS comes back up. Then don't do anything and just take it to the dealer.

I changed my filter and fluid and got a limp mode threw the trans. But I could clear the trans limp mode every time I cycled the ignition

The highlighted PRNDS did not go away after a few restarts. The dealer has the car now but they don't open until tomorrow. Could this be something simple or is it possible it is completely screwed up? I don't mind driving a rental but I have a couple things going on this weekend that I want a nice car for haha.

My B5 did that when the connection got very wet. In limp mode the tranny stays in 3rd so it's good you took it in.

    Re: Transmission

At this point if you didn't get the trans to clear itself after a few starts I would say there is a serious issue. There is something constantly wrong. With low fluid you can get the trans to clear it self with a key cycle.

    Keep us posted please

    Re: Transmission

So I went to the dealership this morning and when they started the car it wasn't in limp mode anymore. The guy said I could leave it anyways and they would run diagnostics when they get the chance. Sounded good to me. Then they said they couldn't give me a loaner because I am 20. Seriously?? I have rented three cars before with no problem. So now I have the car again and it just doesn't feel right to me but it is hard to explain. If I have any issues I am taking it back to the dealership and raising hell. And then if they don't give me a loaner I am raising more hell.

    Any suggestions?

    Re: Transmission

I'm afraid that you won't be able to do anything about the loaner car. I've heard tons of stories like this and they have that right. Not defending them nor saying that it's OK.
Some dealers don't even offer loaners if your original warranty has expired but they do offer to take you work/school if needed.
