    Key question?

I have a 96 a4 and I was looking around for a switchblade key. I did some research and all I found was that it was not possible to have a switchblade key in a 96 b5. Can anyone confirm this as true and if not does anyone know how it can be done. Any help would be appreciated.

    Re: Key question?

You can get one CUT to fit your car...but the alarm and all the functions on the key will not work.

I to also owned a 96A4 and I can tell you its not worth the trouble and headaches. Save the cash and put it towards tints or an intake.

Damn sucks. Yeah I read up on it and things looked bleak. Mine came with some sort of keyless entry remote but the button doesn't unlock the doors. I can still manually lock them and set the alarm though so its not too bad.

    Re: Key question?

Ya, my local dealer in Los Angeles area quoted me around 120 dollars I think, I know it was over 100 to have the key cut. He didn't say anything about the alarm not working with the key. But they found out my alarm's keyless entry systems jacked anyway, and a new alarm was like 600 dollars. So I said forget about it.

Well the AUDI dealer should only charge you 25$ to cut the key. That's how much I paid when i got my key cut for my 1999.5 AUDI A4 and even then thats way too much!

Ya I think he said it was like $25 to cut it, but it was like 100 or something for the switchblade key. My alarm works. I don't care about the keyless entry. I have to take my keys out to start the car anyway. So I told them not to fix it. Or the sunroof that broken/jammed open. That was like 600+ too. I told them close it and turn it off haha. I don't use it anyway. I just happened to open it for fun, and the slide cover went all the way into the roof and jammed up the track and stuff.

Yeah the dealers are a joke. I called them so that I can get the code for my stereo and they wanted $100 bucks and proof of ownership on top of something else. I don't think so.

I really don't mind the keyless entry not working. It hasn't bothered me at all. I just would like the switchblade keys but if its true they they won't activate my alarm then forget it.

The dealer near me cuts keys for free. Unless you bought the blank from them for $25 you got ripped off. Actually when I brought my blank to get cut the machine took a little chip of the side were it wasn't supposed to, He said it would still work but wanted to cut me a new one anyways. So I walked out with 2 working keys and paid nothing.

    Ya they're so cool! Haha.
I actually have a question. I have 2 keys one's suppose to open the doors, trunk, glovebox, and start the car. The others suppose to be a valet key that does everything but unlock the trunk and glovebox. But the fat key only opens the doors and the other key only starts the car. It might be cause the ignition was replaced twice, from recall. Or did I just read the manual wrong?
