The base price should be around $49,000. What does it mean by not a single S4 will be sold for less thatn $55,000 ?? Will it be more than base price when it comes out next year?

Most likely they will be equipped with options and that's why the price would be 6K more than the entry level.

Besides the options that bring the base price up there will also be other factors in their price. If the cars are in high demand than they dealerships can raise the price above MSRP and people will still buy them.

it's true. it's a little crazy, but that's probably nearly loaded (including drive select, etc). looking at B7 a4 vs s4 and a5 vs s5 price differences it generally seems the base price for the s models in $2000-3000 more than an A model with most packages added.

it will be interesting to see where the s4 comes in with the new packaging they used for the a4 this year. i would guess the base model s4 could come in around 49000, and would have options similar to a premium plus A4. then maybe you have to add a technology package or something, add drive select and differential and bam! you're at 60k.

who knows. i'm just guessing based on the evidence available. but i REALLY hope it will be possible to get an S4 for an msrp of 52 or so. good to dream right?

That's a crazy difference. 17 mpg in the city is hardly better than current S4s but the highway is much better. They probably just changed 6th gear.

you need to shift sooner! I often do exclusively city driving and almost always get higher than that. 15 mpg is the norm I'd say.

Not compatible. JHM has been working on a new one for hte S5 (don't know if they finished development). All of the shifters are VERY similar, but with tiny tweaks, which the SS companies have to account for

by "looks", you mean fake quad tail pipe tips that aren't even connected to the exhaust?

the only cool thing about the IS-F is the auto tranny with the locking torque converter.

I'd still take a 3.0TDI A4 over the S4 though.

that is a good arguement but I feel like this car will be far more advanced than any of those. I have driven the S5 and RS4 back to back on the track and the S5 keeps up. That is a testament to improvements on the newer chasis cars.

oh and yes the prcing gets out of hand when you add options like SLine, driveselect and navigation. These pricy options are built with technology , advancements and quality in mind though and competitive products simply do not stack up over time.

These are performance cars we're talking about, so performance is a big factor, and it's already down !00 hp. It has a phenomenal 4 wheel drive system, but I'm not sure where else it could be far more advanced. I like Audi interiors better, but overall I don't think the S4 is more advanced, they just put money into different things (BMW = powertrain and handling, Audi = Quattro and interior).

I read an article in the 'wheels' section of the toronto star (reference for the T.O. people) where Jim Kenzie estimated the S4 at $70K CDN. Like I've said in other threads, that's going to be hard sell. The ironic part is that Kenzie said the S4 is a competitor for the M3 and C63, however I believe Audi themselves have put this to bed.

While the stigma for BMW dirvers can sometimes be true, sometimes it's not(I'm a BMW driver, and I have a friend or 3). Ultimately, there's no denying that a loaded 335i @ $10K less than an S4 is a 'good' value.

That said, I'm still holding out hope for the S4, as I think it has everything I need in a sporty sedan with winter capabilities, and enough space for a couple of kids. If they don't price it right, I'll consider an M3 sedan, or wait for Audi's notoriosly bad resale to kick in, and buy one CPO'd.

Was at the Audi Driving Experience on Thursday, and their head honcho guy told us the reason they didn't bring the 335xi for comparison was because it competes against the S4. So much for the S4 competing against M3, C63. We all know the RS4 is for that anyway - but it wasn't always that way.

I can tell you this, and I am sure you see it too, Audi is on the move, sales are up, stock is up (20x that of Bmw's), JD power IQS is very strong while the comp. models you mentioned are not exceeding expectations whatsoever. A quick autotrader.com search shows 135 S5's nationwide and over 1300 M3s.

This S4 is an exciting car dollar for dollar. All the ingredieints I like are there, forced induction, all wheel drive, comfort, safety etc. Sounds like a winner to me so competition be damned. To each their own.

i have always hated mercs with a passion and will NEVER own one. And, after just having an awful experience with BMW I doubt I'll ever own one of those either.

Audi as totally messed up on the price starting from the B6(which is the last audi that I bought). For the Us guys its not too bad on the initial purchase and on the resale but here.....you take a bath. I had to choose between a 53K 2.0T S-Line titanium and a 49K 335I...I dont care if you guys call that car loaded its still a base 4 cylinder A4 against top of the line 3 series. Im an audi fanboy but gotta look elsewhere. Long gone are the 5 cylinder audi, ur s4,b5 s4 now they want to sell cars slow overpriced cars to metrosexual. They used to be aimed at connaisseurs now theyre turning like Bmw and Porsche(with their SUV,Panamera...whats next)Id take a 3.0 Tdi a4 for 60K cdn.

It's not only about money, but it has to be partially about money. As car guys/girls, we all spend more than is necessary on cars (it's passion as well as transportaion), but I still have to get fairly good value compared to its competitors.

On the good side, I read an article at Audiworld that claims the S4 will come in LESS than its predecessor. This not only makes a lot of sense given the competition (i.e. 335i vs S4), but also gives me hope!

At $65 - $68K $CDN well equipped, this car has an extremely strong chance of landing in my driveway...

If it's about money than YES you should look elsewhere and no one here will argue

This may or may not be possible. Once we find out for sure, I will let you know.
