About time for the first oil change

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I'm about to hit 5k on my 08 and I was going to do an inital oil change before the 10k scheduled service. Anyone know of a good deal on change kits or a recommended filter?

Re: About time for the first oil change

a 5k oil change is a good idea. i couldnt last until my 10k.

anyway, i did mine last week- bought everything from the dealer. oil filter was only about $10. drain plug was about $2 and 6 quarts of castrol syntec 5w40 at about $4-5 a piece. you're also going to need a 36mm socket to get that oil filter out

    happy

Well I'd buy from the dealer if there was one close by. I'm 100mi from my nearest Audi dealer which will make my 15, 25, etc. servicing fun.

As per my dealer the 5k service is complimentary (free). I have a 08 as well with the new TFSI motor.

I hardly leak out of my section, but you could get your filters from here. They have free shipping on orders over $50, so you could get the 4 pack and add an extra loose one and have 5 for a fairly good deal and then have them ready for your next oil change (or pay $4.75 for shipping under $50). As for the oil, it is about preferance. I myself just started to use Amsoil and will more than likely continue to do so.

    Edit: Hey OpenSkye:)

ecstuning.com sells a lot of audi maintenance supplies/parts. they are great and can ship to you. but their prices werent as good as the ones i got from my dealer.

It depends on which engine you have. If you have the new CCTA engine, with the oil filter on top (and a regular airbox), germanfilters.com doesn't have it.

www.ecstuning.com is a great site with excellent service.
since you're in CA, check out www.parts4vws.com --- it uses the same filter as the Tiguan--- it is another great site with with excellent service.

That only works with the BDY engine.

2008 is a split year for engines. You might want to fully specify in the description that it is for the BDY engine only.

Your first service is scheduled for 5K -- there is no interval @ 10K.

Stop by your nearest dealer and they will take care of you.

Closest dealer is 100mi south, hence my contemplation for doing the initial servicing myself. I'm going to use my local VW dealer for minor servicing (used to take my Passat there... of course).

I like to do an oil change at first 500 miles. Then 1500 then the 5K service.

Free if I want to drive 100mi to get it done. That's the downside of living in a small town.

Re: About time for the first oil change

if i were you, i'd drive down to the dealer, get the "free" 5k service + wash, and pick up your supplies for your oil changes at home.
100 miles each way isnt that bad, especially in an A3!

Re: About time for the first oil change

A 100 mi drive will get the oil nice n hot. your car will benefit from this because the dirty oil will flow out better and carry with it more of the sludge.
