    Re: stock flywheel

I took my DMFW on my A4 to a machine shop to see if they could free up some weight, I got a quote for $700 and a warning that because of the design it would be very difficult to shave off enough to gain any noticable differences. Since the S4 uses a DMFW, I would think the same applies. If you have a spare FW and your own Machine tools I could see the argument, but then you'd have to balance it too.

I would steer away from that idea for the issues of proper balancing. Just buy a LW flywheel Vast sells 'em for under 500

Most DMFW's are very sensetive to balance and weight adjustments. It relies on centrifugal force to work properly, and taking off too much weight could affect that. You could probably shave a pound or so off of it like GiacGRs4, but you wont notice any difference at all from that amount of weight.

i had to resurface mine anyway so asked the guy how much would it be possible to take off, he said the most 2lbs but that would be very close. so i decided just resurface and shave off half a pound.
