    Bonnet sound dampening mat?

    My 2004 A4 1.8T didnt come with installed with the sound dampening mat on the underside of the bonnet.

    Does anyone know the part number for the mat and fittings?

    The hood insulator's part # is 8E0863825AF it fits 02-05

    Whats the point of having that mat? My mechanic saw it hanging loose and he just ripped it off for me. This is also my master tech mechanic that swears by the underbelly pan so I am pretty sure that sound dampening mat has no use.....

    It is there for fire protection...if there is a fire, the clips will melt, the mat drops and it will extinguish the fire.

    I've had mine off for over a year and no paint issues. I think air circulates better as my temp gauge seems to be more accurate (according to bank sign temps anyway). A little more engine noise but I think it helps cool the engine bay better without.

    Thanks audituning02 for the numbers and will order based on those. Do you know how many retainers are required to secure the mat?

    I can tell everyone that the mat will NOT effect the paintwork as my A4 has been without since new. However, I like to have less noise and lower temp on paintwork for peace of mind. I know the paint wont flake or fade off but it does get rather hot after a long drive.

    I need to stick to US terms for hood and you caught me out from UK. :D What do Americans call the boot, same?
