Depos clear cornered (NOW WITH INSTALL PICS)

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I just got my Depos on monday. My first step was clear cornering them. The process was basically the same as the OEM lights. Saturday I will be installing them on the car so i will update the pictures. The quality of the lights is great but the adjuster for the projectors sucks.. no gripes with anything else. Anyways, can't wait to get these on the car

they look good but I bet the internals are made of different materials than OEM. So how you baked and resealed after taking out the cap?

Not sure what you are asking.. but i baked them for about 8 minutes at 200 degrees. I tried 5 minutes but it wasn't quite long enough. For resealing i put the lenses back on, put the clips on, and than popped them back in the oven for the same amount of time. Like i said, basically the same way as the OEM lights.

No sealant added.. it came with quite a bit. I didn't feel like there was a need to add anymore.

they look good - i was considering doing this... however, i'm trying not to spend more money on the car at the mo!

i have my original headlights (with orange lenses) sat at home so i may take them apart, paint them black & get some B8-esque LEDs on the go.

be good to see yours fitted.

    Re: Depots clear cornered

Since you had them apart did you see any way to remove the rings to paint them with high temp black? I know you can't remove them or you'll get a bulb out, but painting them black will do the same thing. Also wondering if you can remove the reflector angel and keep the projector if it would cause bulb out as well, having both is too bmw for me.

Just a tip - try preheating the oven to 350, then shut if OFF before putting the lights in.

Leave them in for 15 mins, remove and you'll have no trouble at all separating them and as well, there's no chance of melting the plastic since the oven is off you're not actually 'baking' them.

Also, USE A TOWEL of some sort instead of just resting the actual light housing on the grill of the oven itself. I'm surprised it didn't leave any indents or grooves from the rack based on how you did it.

As a reference, I've done over 35 sets of lights for different vehicles on different forums but the basic principle is always the same.

They don't seem to be removable.. i played around with them a little bit. It would be easy to tape off and paint though. I haven't figured out what i am going to do because i certainly don't want the halo's lit. I'll keep the thread updated when i install them

would you mind taking pics of the standard halogen headlight beam and the beam from these (before and after)?

i've seen a couple on this forum, but the more the better. most of the ones i've seen are projecting onto a garage door or something. something that shows the actual light on the road would be great. my eyes aren't that great, and my night vision is terrible (even with glasses). i wouldn't want to downgrade the light output just for nicer looks.

Will do. I have a drop in HID kit at the moment so it will be brighter than standard halogens, but the beam will be the same.

nice. that's actually the combo that i was looking into. from what you can see, does it look like there will be a convenient mounting place for the ballasts?

    Re: Depos clear cornered

I mounted my ballasts inside my engine bay.. not attached to the headlights. You could probably mount them on the back of the headlights themselves, but you want ballasts as low as possible. They will interfere with radio reception if they are up too high (such as mounted to the back of the lights).

    Re: Depos clear cornered

Installed the headlights today. Overall the install was pretty easy.. it was the first time i removed the front bumper so we could have done it a little faster. Luckily i had my buddy(europa) helping me. The only place i had any difficulty was the main plug into the headlights on the depo's. They were really hard to snap in. I decided to keep the halos because they really look good in person. The cut-off definitley isn't perfect but im happy enough with them. The projectors are great quality though with a good output.

Overall i am very happy with them. Two big for Darren from streetwerke.com for offering a great product with great service.

Excuse the dirty garage. The lenses are also a little dirty. Comments appreciated

I apologize i forgot to take pictures of the beam pattern last night so the best i could do was against the garage. The lights have just as good if not better output though.

So you have HIDS in now correct? The light output in the pics looks very good. I just got mine on with halogens and the light output is noticeably lower than stock....the beam pattern I think is better, but the fog lights add more light on the road than the headlights do...I hope HIDs will make a big difference because they're pretty dim as-is. Not quite dangerous dim, but noticeable for sure.

They come with just the headlight housings. Than you swap all the bulbs out of the stock housings (halogens only) to these.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!

no, those pics are great. have you driven around at night with them? how's the light output?

i read earlier how you had to mount the ballasts low, or it will interfere with radio frequencies. do you have any pics of where the ballasts were mounted? did you have to drill or was the mounting pretty straight forward?

Just a warning: If you plan to CC, add more sealant.

One of mine are letting in a tiny bit of moisture. Fortunately i have to take the bumper and lights off again anyways to adjust the beams.. they are set a bit too high.

I would love to know if there is a VAG code to disable DLR/City lights or whatever these Halos are replacing. I like them but would like to be able to turn them off sometimes as well.

i read earlier how you had to mount the ballasts low, or it will interfere with radio frequencies. do you have any pics of where the ballasts were mounted? did you have to drill or was the mounting pretty straight forward?

can you change the ring bulbs to a whiter color?
I'll get some pictures for you later tonight or tomorrow. I didn't mount them very professionally but it will give you an idea.

Re: Depos clear cornered (NOW WITH INSTALL PICS)

Hey buddy, sent you an email regarding some others with moisture problems, one said they put a silica packet, the freshness packet, in the headlight and sealed it in there! They haven't had a moisture issue since. Not sure if that would really work but something to consider, that and some sweet ace epoxy!
