    2-3.5K drone in Stasis Exhaust?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey everyone, I know these drone questions are getting annoying but I have been searching and reading through old threads on exhaust drone and I noticed Stasis people mentioning a crazy cabin drone from 2-3.5Krpm. What I was hoping to understand was is this in all gears or just 6th?

Anything else I should know about Stasis exhaust before I commit and buy it?

I guess what I'm getting at is I need someone to better define what drone really is...I need some characterization.

As it stands now, I'm wondering the following:

Does it happen in any gear at that same RPM?

Does it happen at any amount of throttle or just full throttle?

Does this make highway driving essentially impossible?

    What about conservative city driving?

Re: 2-3.5K drone in Stasis Exhaust?

I can't imagine the drone with the stasis system is that bad. My setup right now drones pretty bad, have to ship the tips out soon to get the drone fix put in.
for me it drones really bad from 2400-3200 anywhere past half throttle any gear (mostly 4th&3rd). highway driving isn't impossibe but you wouldn't want to do long trips in the back seat.
City driving isn't that bad though.

Re: 2-3.5K drone in Stasis Exhaust?

Drone is a constant in-cabin sound resonance. Its when the low frequency sounds of the exhaust produce undesirable sound/vibration inside the car.

Think of a V8 mustang with flowmasters just cruising down the road, you can hear and feel the vibrations. After a while, that constant 'drone' gets annoying.

However, A4 exhaust drone is nowhere near as bad as the v8 mustang example. But on an Audi, which is supposed to be quiet and luxurious, any exhaust drone does feel out a little out of place.

I was researching this exact question last night. I have an avant and I assume it will only be worse. Maybe I'm going Milltek after all.

the neuspeed exhaust doesn't drone at all...unless you have a TP...then it is impossible to drive anywhere without being at least a little annoyed

a test pipe on any exhaust will produce drone. if you don't like loud, don't get a testpipe.

the stasis exhaust without a testpipe is drone-free.. so don't worry about it.

Re: 2-3.5K drone in Stasis Exhaust?

I have the Stasis Cat back on my A4 (approx 6k miles on it) and it does have a slight drone at hgwy crusing speeds. City driving is ok because in city driving I do not stay at constant gear/speed/RPM for a long time.
Initially the drone was really bad but then it got much better when i ran a BG 44K fuel additive/cleaner on my car.
It is still noticeable and annoying on trips above 3hrs.
I am looking to buy a tip silencer (not sure if this is a correct term for this device) which I could place only for long trips. Any suggestions?

techtonics 2.5" dp/catback exhaust with borla mufflers is whats on my car. I love the sound, NO drone, quiet, tuned sound, low sporty, not obnoxious and ricey.

Any sound clips of the Techtonics? I had TT w/ Borla on my VR6, and it sounded awesome, but was too loud for long highway trips.

I have the stasis exhaust on my A5. The cabin noise at 2-3k is a bit over the top. Sometimes its so bad it hurts my ears.

Techtonics sound clips? Sorry, i would need to borrow a video camera for that. I love it though, as a matter of fact, im complimented on it by just about everyone riding in the car. Ive yet to hear anyone complain about it being too loud, my neighbors are pleased, it sounds sporty and quiet when you roll by cops and loud when you really get on it. I love this exhaust, everyone else does too. The only time people arent too big on it is in a parking lot "rev competition".

Yeah. If your worried about drone why get an exhaust?
Last thing I wanted to do is throw away a perfectly good, quiet, stock exhaust just so I can spend $1k on an aftermarket exhaust that yields little to no power and drones all day long.
Get a $69 test pipe, gain 20hp, lose the drone, and it still sounds a little throatier at WOT.

Eventually My stock exhaust will rust out and I'll be on a BT kit. Hopefully by then APR comes out with their RSC exhaust for us and it actually works to keep shit quiet.

Unless you got a Ducati or 500hp under the hood, ssshhhh.

Re: 2-3.5K drone in Stasis Exhaust?

I have an APR catback on my Avant. From what I could gather with my searches, it was supposed to be the quietest, most conservative one out there... DRONE!!! City driving is OK, but the 2000-3000 RPM range (which is where we mostly are on the highway) yields an annoying cabin resonance. So much for relaxing, long distance drives... Gotta pay to play I guess

I wrote APR to inquire if I could buy just the RSC mufflers to weld them in place of their regular canisters: the simplest way I can think of to fix the problem without having to buy a whole new 1000$ catback (the rest of the exhaust is fine)... I have yet to hear from them.

Let us know if you find another solution that works.

    Happy motoring!

I was actually thinking of selling my Stasis cat back due to the highway drone 2K-3K and replacing it with the APR. Oviously this time around I would wait until I can test it on some other A4. But it looks like the APR is not much better. Don't get me wrong, the exhoust sounds awesome on daily commute but it gets annoying on longer hgwy trips.
I was also wondering about the RSC exhaust for A4 but have not seen one yet on the APR webpage.

Ive had the AWE quad tip and the APR catback, the APR had almost no drone and was actually rather quiet. With the AWE you get it right in that 2-3k rpm range and it gets annoying, so thats when you downshift!

I'll tell you that the only time my Stasis Drones, and it's minimal at that, is when I'm trying to accelerate, or hold speed in too high of a gear. I love the way it sounds. Especially when you floor it in first and second. Sounds great.
