I know that the B5 S4 and 2.7t have the same engine but is the reliability any different between the two seeing as it is the same engine? Thanks.

    Re: S4 vs 2.7T

The tuning for the a6 is a little more conservative right out of the box. That probably adds to reliability somewhat, but I would still say it comes down to proper care. It's the same mechanically.

i know that a prius and a 9volt battery have the same engine but is the reliability any different? ...amidoinitrite?

but seriously, i have an s4, and my mom has an a6 2.7t.. we even bought the cars at the same time, and so far, she has only had to replace a hub cap, and as for me, well its a loooong list of repairs.. a6 2.7t are waaaaay more reliable... her car even has 20k more miles than mine.

My S4 has a 2.7t so my S4 must be more reliable than yours.

    Re: S4 vs 2.7T

    exactly.

the 2.7T isn't an unreliable engine. A gently driven stock A6 2.7T or B5 S4 will not have a ton of issues.

S4's owners mod them and drive the piss out of them....of course everything breaks.

I doubt the tuning is any different since they both have 250 stock. I think weight is more the function.

The big difference as far as reliability between the two probably comes down to the driving style of either car, the S4 being marketed more towards people who drive like their hair is on fire, one would assume those cars generally have more issues.

    Re: S4 vs 2.7T

Wait... the S4 and the 2.7T have the same engine? I thought the 2.7T had a 4.2 v8 and the S4 had a 1.8T and the S-line had a 2.7T which is the same as the 4.2 v8's 2.7T which is based off the 2.8L which sometimes comes underbored with a 2.7T. So which 2.7T has the same engine as the S4?

    Re: S4 vs 2.7T

Let's try not to make it any uglier boys...the original question wasn't phrase the best, but the posts so far have made that known well enough.

RR, to the extent you're trying to find out whether the 2.7T in other models had any different parts that may be interchanged because those parts may be better, one that comes to mind is the last MY Allroad (with the 2.7T of course). It's not an A6, but I know those Allroads had a metal TBB which is probably better than the rubber TBB in a stock S4 (don't see how it wouldn't be). I don't know if it will or can be made to work in your A6, but I'm actually looking into it right now for my S4.

Don't talk about something you have no idea about.

Show me a B6 S4 that came stock with a 2.7T and I will retract my statement. I have a feeling it will be there forever.

    Same thing goes for a B6 having a 2.8.

    "Dawg", you do some reading.

Yes I know. Read my post several posts up from yours... I said I meant to have A6 2.7T. "Dawg why dont you do some reading". Btw the A6 has the 2.8 and b6's dont have the 2.7T engine they have 4.2 in them.
