Turbo's gone, need upgrade advice for my Automatic 1.8t

The screw that sits right on our turbo fan came off while driving and now my turbo is pretty much stripped and shot to hell from the damage the screw caused. I can not for the life of me figure out how that happened, mainly because it was in the shop the whole week before getting a new fuel pump and mass air flow sensor. Long story short I either can replace/rebuild the factory turbo for around $1000 with labor or I can go ahead and do my K04 upgrade now. The problem here is that my car is automatic, so before you guys try and convince me of the stage 3+ ( that I want so badly) it doesn’t make sense for my car as I will A: never have that kinda cash to dump in this car and B: never have the means to beef up my tranny, FMIC, etc.

I drive my car about 100 miles a day and I need to be really reliable. The car currently has 98K, a stage 1 APR tune, and a MagnaFlow exhaust (not cat back due to the automatic…just resonators and mufflers).

If I had $2500 to spend on this upgrade, and labor is going to be around $400, what should I do? Should I go with APR’s K04 or does Garrett make a k04 ball bearing turbo for our car? I hear those are more reliable for the long haul!?!?!?!?

I just want the car to run smooth and be a little more fun to drive. I would love some suggestions, esp from someone who already has an automatic with a k04 setup.

    Thanks,

    alright stop right there......

    I have a tiptronic and have been stage 1+ (APR/TT225s), stage 2 (APR/K04), and now stage 3 (GTRS/Revo)

don't go K04, it's going to hurt your tranny more then a Elim series and your not going to be much faster then a 1+ k03 anyway. the tq spike on a K04 is pretty harsh and that is whats going to kill the transmission, the GTRS is much smoother.

the big question is if it's a tiptronic or CVT, if you have a cvt (6 speed auto) i would just put another K03 in it. If it's a tiptronic (5 speed) you won't need to upgrade the transmission with the elim turbos. so which is it?

It is a 5 speed tip fully loaded quattro. What all do I need? obviously the GTRS Elim, but what injectors do I need, what software, etc.? You are my man for this, so any and all detail would be amazing.

    Thanks man!!!

What if I do everything but the intercooler? I have the funds for everything but that.

you'll loose power in the heat without an fmic. i'll let more knowledgeable people chime in about that. you may be alright but you will suffer from heatsoak (not sure when you can get the 400 or so for an ebay fmic but thats a cheap solution that would work
