The screw that sits right on our turbo fan came off while driving and now my turbo is pretty much stripped and shot to hell from the damage the screw caused. I can not for the life of me figure out how that happened, mainly because it was in the shop the whole week before getting a new fuel pump and mass air flow sensor. Long story short I either can replace/rebuild the factory turbo for around $1000 with labor or I can go ahead and do my K04 upgrade now. The problem here is that my car is automatic, so before you guys try and convince me of the stage 3+ ( that I want so badly) it doesn’t make sense for my car as I will A: never have that kinda cash to dump in this car and B: never have the means to beef up my tranny, FMIC, etc.
I drive my car about 100 miles a day and I need to be really reliable. The car currently has 98K, a stage 1 APR tune, and a MagnaFlow exhaust (not cat back due to the automatic…just resonators and mufflers).
If I had $2500 to spend on this upgrade, and labor is going to be around $400, what should I do? Should I go with APR’s K04 or does Garrett make a k04 ball bearing turbo for our car? I hear those are more reliable for the long haul!?!?!?!?
I just want the car to run smooth and be a little more fun to drive. I would love some suggestions, esp from someone who already has an automatic with a k04 setup.
Thanks,
