RS4 Vs Supercharged S4 street pull

As you may have seen this dyno pop up today, we followed it up immediately by putting both cars side by side and running them from the bottom of 3rd to the top of 3rd gear on the tarmac:

Below: Red curve (Supercharged S4) / Green (RS4-stock) / Blue (S4-stock)


Camera car is a Stock 2008 RS4 (Sedan) 6 speed with Miltek cat back - 91 octane.

Black Supercharged 2008 S4 (Wagon) 6 speed with stock exhaust - 91 octane.

Both cars were rolling around 2300rpm in 3rd gear and then we punched the gas to redline. Minimal driver error, both cars experience a lot of load and can truely display their low to top end grunt.

btw, s4 s/c vs. s4 stock is really beyond the point since as we all saw here, the s/c s4 beat the pants out of the RS4. (which we all know to be faster than a stock s4.)

this video just proves that the S4 has a much greater low end pull... I interested to see these runs done in a more realistic fashion... Like at the top of 3rd, not bottom. Its obvious that a supercharged car would have way greater power down low, but if im not mistaken, towards the end of the 3rd video (where the RS4 honks) it almost look as if the RS4 is starting to regain ground in higher RPM, and it feels like it would catch the S4 had they gone through to 6th gear. I might be wrong about all this but im just wondering why the runs were done in such a low rpm range

when was the last time in any kind of race, you got into 6th though? roadracing barely 4th, 5th if you are lucky... drag racing maybe 5th, top speed once a few years... the power seems to be where any car would like it...

That's not really the point though. In day to day traffic you are going to use the lower part of the rev band like you said, but if you are racing you are almost never going to be down that low. I'm sure the s4 would still win, but I'm wondering to what degree.

It does really seem as if the RS4 has the RPM's way too low. I do understand wanting to compare apples to apples to an extent.

However, I would really like to see 5000 rpm in second start in the RS4, which should put you somewhere in the 45 mph range. Let the RS4 use its complete RPM range and I would bet it gets the jump on the supercharged S4. The question becomes how quickly the S4 reals the RS4 in and passes it.

Take this as someone who is seriously considering the Supercharger on their RS4, and would be more than willing to drop my car off at AWE and have the first RS4 in the east/midwest with the VF setup.

Personally, I think this was a good test but we are very open to trying more scenarios when we have time. Tomorrow we will start taking the RS4 to pieces and will be enjoying every moment of it !

looking at the dyno you can see the s4's power is still climbing. why not rev it out to 7300-7400? that what i dyno'd my car at and exactley where it made it's peak power

what steps have been taken to make sure that the engine does not fail?

does the engine need to be rebuilt after the s/c is installed?

where do you get the car serviced?

can any exhaust be used, or is there something specific in mind?

1.) My car has 75K on it now. Should I be looking at replacing the timing chain if I were to install the S/C

2.) Im assuming 75K on original clutch may need replacement too.

3.) What else should we be looking out for as many of our V8 S4's are racking up mileage before the S/C install?

do your clutch, serpentine belt, and valve cover gaskets. you dont need to bother with chains until 140k

i cant help but be amused by reading some of the posts on this thread. No matter how good the product is, how objective the methods were done to show its performance and compare it to others, there will always be people out there who doubt and who arent satisfied. Its quite obvious that some RS4 owners' egos were hurt because they just cant accept a s/c s4 blowing them into the weeds and so we can see them making any and every excuse to assert their car's better performance, etc. Nik/VF/AWE, you guys have obviously made an excellent product here but there will always be losers out there who will always doubt. Can't please everyone.
