Got a new radio for less than unlock

A few months ago I bought a new battery due and during the switch out my radio went to safe mode. I thought no problem the code is in the manual... but my radio had been changed and after two tries the radio locked. I pulled the radio and the code serial number was different. I thought no problem I will call Audi and see if it was changed under warranty. Nope, no luck. The customer service person told me I would have to call the local dealership to unlock the radio. They wanted $60 to unlock the radio. I called back the customer service number and they said I was lucky most places charge upwards of $200. I was going to replace the radio with an aftermarket but I was happy with the stock one and didnt want to sink a lot of money into the radio. I finally got around to looking on ebay and bought a new stock bose symphony for $50 total, that included S&H. So sick of the dealer crap with my audi. I had to get a CD out of my old radio and I was thinking about smashing it with a hammer and mailing it to Audi of America headquarters!!!

Do it. Stealerships are always out to get the "customer". Let them open up the box and if you're lucky it will spill and they'll have to pick up the pieces.

Never heard of a radio going safe cause of switching a battery. MIne always automatically popped out the cd when I hook it up to power, regardless if its locked or not.

The radio I bought was new in the box and it came with the code. I made sure the auction said the code was with the radio.

I thought that was the idea behind the code... if someone took your radio from your car it wouldnt work. Disconnecting the battery should lock your radio into safe mode. That is how all my other cars have done I just had the code for those radios.
