I found this beautiful B5 S4 that has been taken care of really well, the owner is an enthusiast and has performed all the major repairs for the mileage. Question is, is it worth 14500?

i almost bought a black 6MT to add to my collection so id have a tip and a manual, but due to me not being able to talk them down they refused to go any lower. it was an actual audi dealership and said they had close tires to the owner and new that it was in perfect condition

Seems to be in good condition and at a fairly decent price. You could probably talk him down $1000 or so.

I originally offered 12k and i think i may have insulted him slightly...however, stated facts from various sites: edmunds, kbb, nada. average between all 3 = 11700, and nada stated 13.3k (i believe)

I was super surprised to see how low the value of these cars are from Edmunds, KBB etc. actually. When I bought my car, I printed the pages out and pushed and pushed, and ended up paying nowhere close to the Edmunds/KBB prices. Failed miserably, pretty much.

It seems like this guy took care of the car. Rare color combination. Timing belt is replaced. Clutch does need to be replaced soon, though. I'd push for $14,000ish.

70k is fairly low for an 8 year old car and these cars are hard to find in decent shape closer to and exceeding 100k. The turbos will go when they go, some have gone with FAR less miles on them.

I agree the price may be a wee high but it is pretty loaded with all the desirable features, including working pixles Though I'm not a big fan of santorin blue with the blue alcantara, if that's the OP's cup of tea, throw a decent offer his way and he may bite. I don't think he'll have a problem getting fairly close to his asking price...

I dont think 14,500 is a unfair asking price at all. It's a super clean, well documented 1 owner car with pretty low mileage. I mean heck, he even has the original window sticker and owner's manuals. Sometimes you have to pay a couple extra bucks to get what you want!

i think that is a good deal. I bought my audi with 70k and paid 12k for it. But then again mine is auto and doesnt have that sexy interior. God i would love to trade for the nogaro blue/ nogaro blue alacantara interior.

It blew the turbos three months to the week after i bought it, sat in my garage for about 5 and a half months..... so my 13g car ended up costing about 22g!

but id low ball the hell out of him, maybe 12,500 not necessairly saying the turbos will go, but either way you need to be prepared for something like that to happen. I am also not sure why he does want so much yet he "needs" to get rid of it for a gtr. those things are retarded expensive what 86g msrp? arent the dealerships taking bids too? So why if he has this new gtr does he have to get asking price for the S?

i bought mine recently. it was nogaro...immaculate condition that had been dealer serviced/AWE modified since day one from an older man. he did all suspension and brake modifications because he found those more important, and had a simple APR tune done. seriously this guy didn't spare a single penny and i paid less than 14.5K.

He already has the GT-R, a GT3, and 88 Targa + others. I honestly think 13k is reasonable for the condition and previous maintenance; however, he already responded firmly that 14.5k is his lowest. Oh well, I will continue my search.

Tell him 13k is as high as you can go and that he has your number if he changes his mind, wish him good luck with the sale. If he just wants the car gone he may reconsider but he seems to be a car guy with deep enough pockets to stand his ground on his asking price. Like I said before, he'll probably come close to that. I did inquire about a 2002 w/ 76k miles: red w/ white/black alcantera. However, no major maintenance has been completed (timing belt, water pump, t-stat, rotors, pads...etc), and there is a small dent in the pass rear quarter. He is asking 13.7k. I thought that was a little high considering the major repairs I would have to invest into. I offered 12k.

It's more of a problem with ALL B5 S4 6spd trannies. The 1-2 synchro tends to be weak

Yeah, santorin is not my first choice; however, a well cared for S4 w/ 6-speed and alcantera is my top choice.

My top choice would be nogaro w/ blue alcantera, or laser red w/ white alcanatera.

I had alcantera in my B7 s4 and loved it. Leather is nice, but i like alcantera better.

i have no doubt he will get what he wants for it and espically because he has the money he wont drop his price. if you find someone that really needs to sell the car to offord to pay their bills, thats where youll find some negoticating. i just picked up a 01.5 same exact color combination 69k miles 6sp with all maintance timing belt control arms new tires. person was asking 14 talked them to 12 cash because they needed to sell it to pay for school. if your looking to bargin your gona have to find someone who really needs the money, not somone who wants to sell it so they can take down the payment on one of there 12 cars.

It's common to the B5 S4, ALL years. Search for slider gear or 1st and 2nd slider gear on audiworld.

Not really ragging on it, just in my opinion there are few colors that can pull it off...Santorin not being one of them

Black, Nogaro, Pearl, Hibiscus and Imola look ok in my opinion, some obviously with silver alcantara, not the blue..Again, just my opinion..

Seeing I work in a shop that works on S4's all the time.. like 4 out of 5 2000's early 2001's that come to our shop have a bad 1-2 gear. Its much harder to break 2001.5+ transmissions, they have revised components.

Believe me. Get a 2001.5+ you're much better off. You won't have the headache of dealing with the transmission or your ABS unit. Not to mention there are other minor revisions through out the car and engine.

If you say so, but I've got a phone book full of dealer and non dealer records from my 2000, including turbo replacement(s) and not one page of transmission or ABS issues. I know that the 2001.5-2002's still had trans issues, even with revised components.

I'd buy the most well maintained, low mileage example that I could afford, regardless of year, unless you're partial to non ESP(2000).

i think thats expensive i just picked up a stage 2+ s4 for 13.5k and it only has 80k. It came with apr bipipe stasis coilovers awe vent boost gauge awe twin 2 catback with the awe downpipes and the under body stabilizer bar. GL

Or maybe you paid too much? Modifications don't necessarily add value to a car. It's nice if the owner can recoup some of their investment, but chances are, only an enthusiast is going appreciate the modifications and pay a premium for them. You could have played dumb and been like "what's that? A bi what? Who the hell is StaSis?" Maybe saved yourself a couple of grand

I picked up a CLEAN nogaro w/ alcantara 6spd with right at 100k miles for under 11....

I don't think you over paid. Nice wheels ARE one of those mods that adds value to a car. He probably would have sold it for a couple grand less without them.
