Screaming pipe!

okay so my buddy bought an a4 with a screamer pipe on it. i was curious if anyone knew how to install one and what exactly it is?

if its the same thing that i am thinking of, this screamer pipes is when you have an external wastegate this will act as like a little exhaust pipe for the wastegate dumping out to the atmosphere.....as for intall, you can only get it on GT30's and up....

well i think its a screamer pipe. it has a high whistle when the car is at higher rpm's which would make it full boost which would make it a screamer pipe. hes got a stock turbo

yeah it is a dump tube. you need to have an external wastegate and have the dump tube not routed back into your downpipe.

unless he welded off his old internal gate and add a new one, he doesn't have one.

it isn't a "whistle" sound either...

hmm. i wonder. well it sounds exactly like a dump tube. so i couldnt put one on the stock k03?

not unless he had an external wastegate.

k03's are internally gated, as are k04's and several other larger turbos. like i said before, you can take off the old internal wg, weld everything up and add a new external wastegate, but then you have to have a new manifold setup.

at the end of the day, your buddy doesn't have it. maybe he runs open dumps/exhaust.

he probably got a testpipe. look in his enigne bay and see if theres a cat. either that, or he got chipped, or is running a cone filter instead of the airbox to hear the turbo more. the k03 likes to wistle shes a loud mofo

i know more about cars than u think. it has no test pipe. not chipped. has a cone intake but it whistle loud before. maybe it is the turbo. but my turbo diesnt do whistle like his. do u think maybe its because it has 161000 miles on it?

T3 tubined 28RS, you do not need a 3076R (aka 30R) and up...

Actually you can do it with a T25 2860rs as well

Shaft play means the turbo is about to blow, if it hasn't already.....you may still be producing boost, but eventually the turbine wheel will completely lose its balance.....the turbo really shouldn't be "screaming," or making any other unorthodox noises if its a healthy turbo. The turbo will produce boost until its totally out of balance, but the more u beat on it, the worse is gets (happened to me with my POS GT2871r that I had bought used...)

do u have any white smoke coming out of ur exhaust? Thats another sign to look out for....thats a result of a bad oil seal that occurs when or right before a turbo goes

no oil....the reason i say i dont think the turbo is about to go is bc its been doing this the whole time i've had the car in my possesion and i race and push it HARRRRDD sometimes. and i've had the car for the last 25000 miles. so has it been about to blow for the last 25000 miles?!?!?! also it fits somewhat the description of a screamer, it sounds when i'm at full boost, when i got my 3" piping it sounded sooner and also the turbo spooled quicker...somewhere online i read that stock b5 a4/s4's may come with screamers

Damn if I had a stg 5 id do 6.5k dumps everytime i accelerated.

not track race....haha yes stage 5 on stock engine...

i dont go up to 6.5k bc then when i shift i'm already half way through my boost in 2nd...ha but ya i go up to like 6k-6.2k(stock clutch cant handle that....found out the hard way)
