    Coilover height question

are the number of threads remaining on each side of coils supposed to be the same? after letting my coils settle, my tech readjusted the height and did the alignment. when i got the car back, my passenger side was just a tad bit higher, about 1/8 inch than drviers side so yesterday i adjusted the right side down so now it's even with the other side. while doing this, i noticed that the amount of threads left on on side was different than the other side.... in the front about an inch worth of thread, the rear was only 2 threads difference. is this normal? i thought you're supposed to match this up?

also, when i told my tech that i need another alignment since it's now pulling a tad to the right.. he mentioned that he had to align the car 3 times when he was making his final adjustments because he would get the ride height perfect, then after alignment, ride height would change in different amounts at different wheels. so when he goes to align the car again, the ride height might change. what the fuck is this guy talking about? i've had coilovers in my past 3 cars and never had this issue.

lastly... the front of my startup gt's has this little allen nut that you screw in to secure the spindle. there's no two spindles like my stassis where the bottom smaller one locks into the top one to lock it in place. well that little allen nut just spins and spins... does't lock in place. is it ok to leave it like this? i'm assuming the pressure of the springs will keep it from moving but just wanna make sure.

    Re: Coilover height question

When I installed coilovers on my VW, I did the install, set the threads so that they were even all around and took it to get aligned. It settled a bit, but settled evenly and drove straight. You may want to contact the manufacturer and see what they recommend.

    Re: Coilover height question

i'm just curious if the # of thread difference is what's making the height different after each alignment. the tech says the difference # of threads doens't matter and also something about having to loosen the subframe when aligning and when put back together height can change. it's werid cuz he did the alignment on my b6 with stassis and never mentioned this nor did we have a problem with height changing after alignment. i'm starting to second guess him and just wanted to see what other's opinions are.

The threads don't matter back to front because they are different set ups.. but side to side they of course do. You should just be able to adjust to where you want the car to sit and align.. the height might change in the MM's but nothing noticeable.

    Re: Coilover height question

side to side is what's different... one side of the front has about an inch or more thread than the other... on the rears, maybe just 1 or 2 threads. oh and my ride height is perfectly even from floor to fender all around
