    Re: S4 Back-up Camera...Any good installs

dude...go to that nav forum website. I can't remember what it is, but someone who reads my post will surely know. It's a forum where all they do is talk about their navigation systems. They're SOOOOOO technical and they know everything, so will be able to help you.

They all have rear view backup cameras hardwired into the TV jack that apparently exists on the Audi RNS-E navigation system. I went there to see about finding if the 2008 or 2009 navi DVD would be better than the 2007 one that came with my car, and after 20 minutes of reading their forums, my head was spinning!

    Re: S4 Back-up Camera...Any good installs

The link above directed me to that forum. I've searched it many times in the past, but never found a great solution. The solution mentioned above is exactly what I'm after, however the price is unreal!

Its the same forum, they recently changed the name from navplus to audiforum

Any quote on the price of that install linked above?

    Re: S4 Back-up Camera...Any good installs

That's really cool and a relatively simple install.

    Prices from genuinevwaudiparts:

    Audi
    4L0 980 551 - Rear View Camera -$195.89
4L0 827 574 3F2 - Door handle - No Part Found I can maybe check ETKA when I get home...
    4L0 980 553 - Camera retaining clip - $4.77
    N 909 159 01 - Tapping Screw - $0.23

    Prices directly from Kufatec

    Kufatec
    35542 - Wiring harness for IMA Audi RNS E "Basic" / "Basic-Plus" - from 29,00 EUR
35676 - Wiring IMA auto switch Rear View Cam Audi RNS-E - 2,99 EUR
    35538 - IMA Integrated Multimedia Adapter mit Steuerung "Basic-Plus" - 189,00 EUR (ouch )
36136 - connection kit original rear view camera VAG to IMA - 39,00 EUR

Overall not too bad except for that one Kufatec adapter. I at least expected the camera to be semi expensive.

Interesting...looks like you can take the Kufatec 36136 adapter and solder a RCA connector to it and make the original Audi camera into a universal camera. This could be my next project!

    Re: S4 Back-up Camera...Any good installs

Updated with new part number. It was 4L0 827 574 3FZ not 2.

    Prices from genuinevwaudiparts:

    Audi
    $195.89 - 4L0 980 551 - Rear View Camera
    $99.08 - 4L0 827 574 3FZ - Door handle
    $4.77 - 4L0 980 553 - Camera retaining clip
    $0.23 - N 909 159 01 - Tapping Screw

    Prices directly from Kufatec

    Kufatec
    29.00 EUR - 35542 - Wiring harness for IMA Audi RNS E "Basic" / "Basic-Plus"
2.99 EUR - 35676 - Wiring IMA auto switch Rear View Cam Audi RNS-E
    189.00 EUR - 35538 - IMA Integrated Multimedia Adapter mit Steuerung "Basic-Plus"
39.00 EUR - 36136 - connection kit original rear view camera VAG to IMA

Given today's exchange rate of $1.30 per euro, that comes to about $300 from Audi and $338 from Kufatec before shipping.

$638 plus shipping for a rear view camera...pretty steep but still a very cool mod.

    I don't think that handle is even the B7 part...it's a A6/Q7 part. I think they're all the same.

Yup it's an A6/Q7 part but I'm not sure about the B6. Maybe just drive by the dealership and see if they look close. They do love reusing parts, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was the same.

If you think about it, the Kufatec unit can actually be used for other video devices as well. So you're not buying the Kufatec unit for the back up cam alone, so it's actually not too bad.

We can use the Kufatec with our iPods/iPhones or a DVD player fairly easily, correct? Basically, this will give us a back-up camera, video player and iPod connection via one install.

not a bad setup, i already have a multimedia adapter, not the kufatec IMA, and it works alright, but how would you have the backup camera AND a dvd player hooked up?

One thing to note, the euro RNS-E is slightly different from the US RNS-E. The buttons are physically different and I believe there are a few software differences. Not sure if you need a hacked euro software version (like how many of the for sale units are) or if the US version would be fine. Someone needs to try it!

i THINK in order to get the reverse cam to work, you have to use VAG-COM to code the RNS-E to lamborghini (since the US lambo's have the reverse cam) only draw back to that is that the startup screen is changed to the lambo one

Nice. Do let us know how it goes. A write up would be nice.

that plus the fact that SAT Tuner capabilities are lost once it's coded to Lamborghini.

this is very worth it since as we speak my car is getting ready to go to the shop to get the back bumper refinished thanks to backing up into a pole. I would want this for sure. It doesn't seem like the writeup is detailed enough.

according to the info posted on AudiNav, SAT radio no longer works and i believe the reason might be that the Lambo coding does not offer that option.

that's b/c your RNS-E uses European software which enables rear-view camera, while the NA software doesn't yet offer that option.

Lambo coding does remove the SAT radio. Lambo coding isnt required for the reverse camera install though.

We're saying that either Lambo coding OR Euro SW is needed. You have Euro SW, so no need for Lambo coding. That's mostly a guess, but for other reasons (TV I believe) people in the US use a hacked Euro version to get it working.

    Re: S4 Back-up Camera...Any good installs

I thought US 0200 S/W allowed the camera option? I know the latest version doesnt as that removed the TV option but I thought 0200 still allowed it?

It's possible...I might be going off of old/new information. I haven't been over to navplus/audiforum in a long time. Either way, I hope someone here tries it out soon enough.

it allows it but it doesn't switch automatically to the TV when engaging the rear gear when coded for the B6/B7.

So only one person has a backup camera right now? i would think more people would do this since its such a nice setup?! What changes in Lambo mode other than being able to use backup camera? Just the Logo?

looks like the only disadvantage of the lambo mode is the loss of sat radio and the lambo startup screen, doesnt bother me much, esp since i dont even subscribe to XM
