LAMBORGHINI ONE-MAKE RACING SERIES
LP560-BASED SUPER TROFEO
October 28, 2008
Lamborghini has just announced that starting next year the company will launch a one-make racing series using race cars based on the newly released LP560. Called the Super Trofeo, this 570 hp version of the LP560 weights just 2,866 lbs and will retain the all-wheel-drive layout for competition use.
“We’re delighted to announce The Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo,” said Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann. “Both on-track and off, our championship will reflect the Lamborghini brand, with extreme, high performance racing and stylish and luxurious trackside facilities. This gives our Lamborghini clients, as well as professional and gentleman racing drivers looking for a new challenge, the opportunity to experience Lamborghini in the ultimate driving environment.”
The series will only be in Europe for 2009 (pity) and will start at Silverstone in the UK and finish at Monza in Italy. The races will be held alongside other important motorsports events including the FIA GT Championship and the DTM series.
With a unique format, the drivers will race in three separate 40 minute races during the race weekend and the results of all three will be compiled.
Lamborghini intends to make 30 positions available for “gentlemen drivers” at a cost of 200,000 Euros (currently $248,000), plus entrance fees.
