I was going to say that the grill looked too small from the front picture. Then I saw the off angle front shot and it looked fine. The car is no doubt nice. Much better than the C6. Everytime I see the back of one of those I think it looks like a saturn.

Very nice, BUT....
Something about the nose, though I'm still mired in liking C5, non-goatee front. Isn't it a bit volvo-ish with hood? Lower bumper line rising up in middle might be part of my issue, but hey, nice car, for sure. Back is superb.

Needs more aggressive fender flares and I agree with Gigi, needs wheels pushed out.

It's a little too sedate looking, unless that's the look they were trying to achieve.

And those rear lights are a little too Camry-ish or maybe 3-series ish, aside from the LEDs.

I don't know...it's nice enough, but not groundbreaking by any means...

Ah, well...perhaps I'm just still too taken by the C5 4.2 body in comparison to anything else at the moment.

My guess is that Audi did not want to use the "s" because of possibe confusion with their true "S" cars. The S6 should not be confused with a lowly 6 cylinder A6.

im sorry guys, but superchargers really suck, its a shame that the only car audi makes that can keep up with a new 335I is the 2.7T or the 4.2T, its a good thing that all audis are built and look better than a BMW.

2 ways for forced induction to increase power; there's lots of info -- on pros/cons, power profiles, engineering efficiencies of each -- by more educated folks than me, but I think Audi community likes fact that turbos are more easily modded. And the higher power at lower rpm.

I agree that the supercharger won't suck.

This is almost the same motor as the B8 S4 will have.

The S/C 3.0V6 in the A6 (engine code CAJA) will be 290HP and 302lb.ft. of torque. The peak torque arrives at 2500rpms and stays until 4850 rpms. With the wide torque band, this car will perform a 0-60 time just around the outgoing B7 S4. (5.6 Sec.)

In contrast, the B8 S4 (engine code CAKA) will be 333HP and 324lb.ft. of torque. Torque band will be the same but, since it is lighter and more powerful, the 0-60 time will be 5.1 Seconds.

A very nice feature of the supercharger used is that it is highly efficient at compression with low amounts of charge air heating. The S/C uses a 4-lobe impeller design versus the more common 2-lobe design and Audi have installed a liquid-to-air charge cooler between the S/C body and the intake manifold. No more bumper mounted intercoolers.

I really like this new A6 but, I cannot live without a manual tranny. I might have to go for the B8 S4 in this case since the 6-speed manual will be available. Also, Audi Drive Select is a HUGE feature on the new B8 platform. I'm quite anxious to see how the Active Sport Differential performs too.

Oh yeah?....well the only NON turbo motor that i would ever buy is either a Porsche, which have 2 of them, and a audi V8/V10/W12....thats it, lets start with this.

Porsche has won LeMans more than any car maker, almost every car they have used was turbocharged (besides a 917).
Audi wins lemans 4-5 years in a row with a TwinTurbo platform , in the R8 and R10.
Almost every pikes peak, or ralley car uses turbo's
The fastest 4 cyc , motors are the 4G63 which comes from a mitsubishi EVO or Eclipse/DSM , no other 4 cyc can run times like them.
The worlds 3 fastest cars are turbo charged , Veyron , 9FF and the Daur 962 , all reaching 250+ mph

Turbo chargers are more efficient and easier tune over superchargers, and superchargers TAKE power to make power ....hmmmm, sounds GREAT! , oh some of car companys come with superchargers like...Saturn, Chevy cobalt , Mini Cooper....matter of fact the cobalt and cooper have now even switched over to Turbochargers (i guess they found a brain near the drawing bord)
and even every large diesel truck uses turbo's....wonder why? more power? maybe more reliable, better on gas? all of the Dyno queens , supras , skylines....ect use turbochargers....so why is everything a success turboed?........well because superchargers SUCK! ..... oh and they sound really really bad......ewwww

I'll just throw this out there.....Perhaps Audi learned their lesson with the 2.7T? Maybe they don't feel like replacing turbo's under warranty or having a tarnished image? I haven't read into the new 3.0T at all, but that would be my uneducated guess. I vaguely remember that being the reason for the B6 S4 getting the 4.2. The motor weighed the same, but wasn't going to be the headache that we all know the 2.7t can be.

Superchargers do not suck. They both have positives and negatives. I myself am interested in seeing what this motor is capable of. As much as I love turbos. I would love to have a boosted car that I wouldn't have to always think about what could be wrong.

a 2.7T is just as reliable as any other turbocharged car....and to be honest with you, im not saying the 2.7T is the gratest thing ever, but its going to make a hell of alot more power than that car, shit if BMW can make a 3.0 Twinturbo car...why can't audi? all im saying is they should have atleast put a 3.0 biturbo in it, or atleast put that in the S4, oh and my car i got with 37K on it, it now has about 86,500K miles on it, and never left me on the side of the road, or broke down, i have changed the TB and WP, and thats it, changed the oil every 2500-3000 miles. and i run the shit out of it, so allllllllll the 2.7T horror stories, maybe they the owners should have taken a bit more care of them, maybe the motor wouldn't have such a bad image. and trust me, this motor will have problems as well. HEY! its a fucking audi and i would still buy it, im just saying it would be nice to see it turbo instead of supercharged, thats all.

The one thing we do know is that the 2.7t is a time bomb. That is fact. A very small number, yourself included don't have issues. Sometimes the turbos just go, regardless of maintenance. I have seen this first hand from my my friends numerous times. I have seen a middle ages lady crying in the Audi service dept cause she didn't have $7K to fix her car. I'm pretty sure she was beating the shit out of it. Just nature of the beast. It's pretty obvious that you are high on turbo. That's cool man. Just don't forget that these are luxury cars. So whatever is going to make the buyer happier is what is right for Audi. I haven't driven the twin Bimmer yet, but a buddy told me it is laggy. If that was true and then you drive this and it was more responsive....that could be all it takes to a perspective buyer. All in all though, I think it boils down to reliability.

I agree with you that it is an Audi, so I am going to like it. It's nice to see them try something different.

Getting back to the original point of this thread.....This car looks much better than the current A6. This and the the B8 are very nice cars. Designs like this should help Audi with their goal of being the number one luxury maker in the world.

i do agree though that if audi wants to make a true performer that will beat alot of car like the bmw's we talk about, then why not make a tt 4.2 with stronger internals for a car like the s4? just my opinion

what gets me is, whats so bad about the 4.2T in the C5 RS6 , why only use that for 2 years, kinda odd, but its an audi and im going to love it no matter what, my total point was, its going up against BMW , MERC and what not, they should have went with somthing eles, thats all :)

The interesting thing about this S/C, seems to me, is the high power at low rpm -- not normally found with non-turbos. As far as I can see it, each is a strategy (blow/suck) for induction increase, and each has tendencies that can be engineered to "fix" the tendency of the technology (lag for most turbos, stealing power and insufficient torque at lower end for most superchargers), and minimize the downside of each approach. "All else" is not always "equal".

Stampy, glad you like your 4.2, but jeez, you sure seem to enjoy posting hearsay about alleged defects, generally running down the 2.7t. Mine runs strong at 115K, shows no signs of imminent problem, runs circles (modded) around stock 4.2. They are not exploding disasters, even though V-8 may be cheaper to operate. Maybe. And it certainly doesn't cost $7K if "turbos go" at some point. But you can mod to upgrade performance a lot cheaper with turbo than S/C, and A6 is not simply a "luxury" cruiser.

The jump from 290 > 333 is purely software.

That just goes to show you how much you can tune the CAJA motor in the A6.

Frank, just wait and see, the CAKA motor in the S4 will be over 400HP in no time whatsoever. A pulley upgrade and a chip is all you need.

I definitely am biased. I will admit that. Not that I think the 4.2 is a godsend, but its reliability made my decision for me. Turbo is great. Its more of everything though....more parts/power/maintenance/etc. I guess I am a fan of NA and superchargers. As DAFT said though, this 3.0t motor should have a pretty high ceiling.

im sure after chip/exchaust/pully/fueling, it should get some high numbers, but it still wont be high like a stage 3 S4 or A6....thats what im getting at, maybe to reach higher than 400HP you will need to change the blower, as with the 2.7T you need to change turbos, either way, im sure it will be a fun car, and i would like to see how people tune them in the future.
