Can the 5HP24 be built to handle 600WHP and around 1000NM?

most likeley the planetary gear set will explode with all that torque. the 6HP32 is what you will need.

to the best of my knowledge the 6hp's outside dimensions are the same as the 5hp's. bell housings will depend on the application, but being an audi i bet all the bell housings are the same

    Re: 5hp24 - 600whp????

MacDaddy - Well the rumour is the RS6 doesnt use the standard 5HP24 bellhousing, the same people say the V8 5HP24 from the S6 wont bolt up. But I would like to know if this isnt the car I can use the 6HP26 as the A8 2004 4.2 used it and that previously used the 5HP24.

Anywhere you think I can find out?

search google and wikipedia for the transmission numbers (5hp24 and 6hp26, etc), theres usually PDF's out there with a list of what vehichles use what ZF transmissions.
    ZF's website is pretty useless.
the B5 S4 is like the mafia... there is only one way out!

Yeah, think of the anarchy and disintegration of civilization and social order that would result if the evil enthusiasts could access any useful performance and technical data on the ZF factory website. Same concern over at Bosch I'm sure.

Not a rumor the W12 and RS6 bell housings are quite different.

The dimensions on the 6hp32 are different as well (the trans is mounted differently).

The 6HP26 is probably your best bet if you must use an auto but you'll have to deal with the electronics differences between the engine ECM and the 6HP26 TCM.

IPT and level 10 all claim that their transmissions will hold up to 700 ft/lbs...

So what kind of project it this? Do tell...

    Re: 5hp24 - 600whp????

    Scott

I plan to upgrade the fuel system 82lb Injectors, Twin 044 Pumps, Larger return line and run GT2871R turbos with custom intercoolers etc.

Am talking to a few people about the 6MT conversion also and they are all being tight lipped (wonder why LOL) but one person who has done it says there is a transmisison, flywheel and clutch (wont hold up) that will be very close to a direct fit from a limited run car but this person is away so will need to wait til he is back to know more.

Re- IPT & L10 - My local transmission guy said the problem with the 5HP24 is the input shaft everything else is fine when upgraded etc.

With regards to the 6HP26 the electronics are easily overcome as I can run a standalone transmission controller and have the ECU O/S written to think it is a manual car as my tuner has already done this for an RS4 B7 with the RS6 engine but this car used a S6 6MT block which i am trying to avoid doing but it may need to be done in the end!

It is wrong. I think the only 5HP24 used behind tdi was a 3.3 from A8, but I am not sure that may be 5hp19 too.
