how do revo switchable files work?

ive only dug in to the file for just a few moments. just a quick glimpse of how revo switchable files work. im assuming the maps are chosen using the sps3.

well, here you see, in "stock" location, ignition 1 and ignition 2 maps. stock values.





here are those same maps in revo's version.





and then way down towards the end of the file, we have these maps where normally there would be FF. i dont know what sort of bits or calls are done to reference these maps. but something somewhere tells the ecu to pull data from these maps instead of the stock location seen above.

wow your really coming along. basically the map calls in the file is just a jump point to the end of the file to where their coding can fit. and since its empty space anyhow the just fill that and then send it back to the original map. its really the easiest way to do something like that. and if they dont need the whole location that they make a jump point at they just break out of that call.

theres some other data at the very end of the file. again, where FFs are present normally.

it starts with this, and then theres data beyond it. maybe more maps? im not sure. those ignition tables are preceding this.

Very cool indeed. Are you searching for the maps manually? Any advice when looking? I haven't done much hands-on with ECU firmware, but have been interested in getting started. What are you using to read/write ECU?

searching manually with lots of random sources of information and references ive been trying to gather stuff from. editing with winols and using a galetto flash cable.

so what do each of those values represent when we're looking at them in the real world?

right now all it is to me is a bunch of numbers which may or may not have any direct correlation to actual parts of the car... like, am i looking at voltages or some type of other unit? how are these values represented in a tangible form? (or are they just references to other values which do take on a more physical meaning?)

so are you saying there may be a way to recode the mapping in the stock ECU to give more power to the vehicle without the use of a chip? Is it possible to duplicate the mapping from the revo file and maybe other company chips to produce this power that their chips give us?

Have you worked out how the maps themselves are defined? Start address with set data size to follow? Start address until EOF (0xFF*N)?

Hate to dig up and old thread, but I just ran across this Galetto cable on Ebay UK. If this is where you purchased it, have you tried any of the tuning files?

I think files are stored in various unused areas of the ECU. SPS then switches the calling routines to point to those different 'files'

Just a thought but I'm not 100% sure if that is what REVO is doing
