    Fuel Filter Clips

    Ok, so I'm retarded.
These clips that everyone was saying are such a PITA is true. I can't seem to figure out how the heck to get these things to come loose. I tried sticking a small screwdriver in with the clips and both of them popped out on one of the hoses. The rest are still intact, but can someone help me out with a good pic or explaination.
Also with the hoses that connect to the "out" side of the filter.

    Thanks guys.

    Re: Fuel Filter Clips

Try this method. It works for me.

(taken from my fuel pump DIY on a4mods.com)

    Here is some text:
Disconnect the two chassis fuel lines. A pair of needle-nosed pliers works well. The key is to push the round side (opposite of the flat side) inward and pull up on the chassis fuel line. This, in turn, releases the lock on the tab within the fuel tank cover. Be gentle for these fuel lines (like the ones on the fuel filter) can be brittle.
written for the fuel pump but applicable to the fuel filter...

    Re: Fuel Filter Clips

Just use your fingers, that way you won't break it!

Here's what you need to do:

Grab the clip with your fingers and press it towards the fuel filter. Basically, push the clips as hard as you can against the filter. Now, press the sides in and pull away from the filter.

So, push in really hard, then pull out. It will be almost impossible if you don't do it this way. Let me know how it works, it did for me!

    Re: Fuel Filter Clips

I'm going to try it again after lunch. What about the hose that has no clips?

    Re: Fuel Filter Clips

This post is a little dated, but I thought I would anwser the question above.

The fuel hose toward the rear that has no clip button removes just like the other clips.

Push the fitting forward toward the filter body, I then squeezed it with a pair of regular pliers. The pliers were on the sides so that the plier was perpendicular with the 90* bend in the fitting.

Hope this helps. On my 2003 my fuel pump was making a racket for a few days and then died. The fuel filter didn't fix it, so them pump must be dead. Off to the dealer on the flat bed for the recall.
