Continental ContiExtremeContacts are excellent all season performance tires. I have them, and would make them 1st on that list. I have also had Kumho Ecsta ASX's, and didn't like them as much. I can't speak for the Goodyears or Sumitomos.

Re: Tire choices....anyone use them, what do you think

I just put the eagle gts on my car. They don't corner that well, they seem to have a really soft sidewall. However, they grip extremely well in the wet and off the line. I haven't tracked the tire yet.

PS: the Kumho Ecsta ASX tire from what I've heard is terrible in the winter

I just picked up the continentals this last week. They roll down the road alright. I haven't had any time to test there performance nor have we had any measureable snow. They are very aggressive though and really seem like they would do well.

bump the size up to a 225 50 17.. and you get a lot cheaper selection. and it wont put your speedo off much at all.. maybe 1-2mph.. and itll fit just fine.

if you need winter tires, get Bridgestone Blizacks. I drove a Z28 for 8 winters in upstate New York with those, never got stuck or had a problem.

I have the kumhos now and they are OK so far but not winter tested yet. I really like the yokohama advan S4 for all seasons. I had a set before these and they are on my WRX. Plus it has a cool name that matches our cars

I have the Contis too. They are quite good in the snow. They'll be the best in the snow out of the 4 tires you posted. I bought mine because of the emphasis on wet + snow traction that they offer. I don't drive hard enough on the street to actually utilize all of the dry-traction that an average Ultra High Performance All-Season tire offers, so the pure dry handling numbers tend to never sway me.

Here's what TireRack had to say about the Conti:

"A well-balanced Ultra High Performance All-Season tire with a reputation for best-in-class winter traction"

But remember, Quattro or not, even the highest performance All-Season tires are only "good" (more like "decent") in snow. You'll still have to take it pretty easy.

*Edit* Oh, and look here if you want to see a good summary of many tires:

Re: Tire choices....anyone use them, what do you think

yea, im leaning toward the conti's. Looked at the GY F1s, but too much for what i need them for. I need something cheap, cuz i have awesome tires for summer (pilot sport PS2s). I am not going to for a winter tire, because i do see lots of snow, but majority of driving is on dry roads, i travel for work. so a winter tire would be a waste, too soft. a cheap A/S to run in the winter is good so i can still get around in snow when at home, but dont have to worry about putting miles on an expensive winter tire.

I wouldn't say terrible, I've been running the asx for 3 winters now and they're OK....but not terrible by any means. Can't vouch for any of the others though. I'm getting around 25K per set with spirited driving

For the money, I loved the Kumho ASX tires. I personally thought they were grippy as hell, but I beat the shit out of them during the summer.

Re: Tire choices....anyone use them, what do you think

I had sumi htr+ on a previous car and liked them for the most part. tire wear was ok, not great. summer grip was decent overall. Winter grip was surprisingly good for a more performance oriented tire. not too noisy, and from what i remember, the price was pretty good as well.

not my favorite tire i've had on a car, but for the price they were good.

^2nd. i wouldn't describe the grip as "outstanding" but for the price, they are a more than adequate winter tire
