I'm going to be a BMW fan boy here, the X5 would have done much much better if not the same if DSC was off or if it was set to "snow mode" (which BMW doesn't mention in the owners manual) the reason it sucked was becuse DSC cuts engine power basically stopping the car from moving.
turning it off, the car shifts power around by use of the brakes (and center diff on x-drive vehicles) when a lack of traction is detected but otherwise does nothing (my B5 S4 without ESP does the same thing)
in snow mode DSC does everything it usually does except intervene with the throttle.

other than that the test is kinda dumb they all have different tires on them which makes the biggest difference in how much traction you will have available.
