What do you guys do about tickets?

I received a speeding ticket on Pali highway tonight. even worse, the only reason I was out so late, was I got in a fight with the woman and felt like getting outside. . I should have just run into the forest after that and take the baby pig away from its mom so it could gore me in the ass, that would be a perfect end to my shitty day. It was like a real shitty day all around.

The cop said I could explain some mitigating circumstances and maybe get it thrown out.

The ticket is for going 15 over in a 45..

thing is.. I was paced with 2 other vehicles, a mini van and a bike. He picked me I guess because of the CA tags.

What do you guys do? I didn't notice any options for driving school or anything. Do you guys have points here like in CA? Should I write something in?

You don't have connections with any traffic law lawyers? Jeez what kind of law student are you? . Don't you have a California license? I don't think it will go on your Cali driving record since the ticket is from Hawaii.

Just pay and be done with it. It's not worth going to court, and sit there all day long waiting for the judge to call your name. In Hawaii, we do have a point system when you have a speeding ticket or an auto accident. I think it takes 7 years for your ticket to clear off your record.

Contest it by mail. Cover ALL your bases so the cop can't argue any point to get himself out, and I'd be confident you have a chance.

I would NEVER just pay a ticket.

You could contest it and the judge could either throw it out or he could drop the cost of the ticket, or just make you pay it and tell you to slow down. No matter what it's on your permanent record. Last ticket I got was for doing 54 in a 35 it was $280 bucks, and I wasn't even driving my S4. There was nothing to contest so I just payed it. If you want you can pay the ticket online.

Dang that sucks, and hawaii has no traffic school or ticket busters like CA and NV. Sucks. It always nice to get out of a big speeding ticket and get it dropped down to a parking fine , gots to love Vegas. Hope it works out for you though.

Well IMHO, I'm just saying he was speeding reguardless, so that makes him guilty of the moving violation under his circumstances. You can contest it in a letter to the judge but its highly unlikely the judge will throw it out, at best the judge may lower the violation fee. You can also go to court and waste your time and get the fee lowered and if you do go to court, the cop won't show unless you were traveling at some ludicris speed. Either way it's going in your record. I mean no offense, I'm just speaking from personal experience.

Yeah maybe Ill go to court for a lower fee, or pay the fee and just get the ticket citation dropped to some traffic violation that won't make the insurance rate go higher.

I think I've gotten 4 tickets here in the past 3 years including 2 in the last 4 months it blows.

You have nothing to lose when contesting a ticket. If you pay it straight up, you're admitting to guilt and you're paying the fine. If you contest it and lose, you're right back where you are now anyway, paying the fine. But at least you would have had the chance to win or reduce the fine. Writing a letter doesn't really take that much effort.

I contested the last ticket I got for no front plate and registration (which I had). Wrote a letter, provided the correct evidence, and it was dismissed. I'm not saying it happens all the time, but it's worth a shot.

In his case, if he was going with the flow of traffic, which happened to be 15 over the limit, I'd contest that. Not only was he singled out of a bunch of cars, but deviating from the flow of traffic greatly increases the odds of an accident (according to CA's driver's handbook at least).
