hey Ravi. As you may recall I was looking for info on the release date for the BB Bold a few months back. Now that it's officially set for Nov 4th, I was trying to find out if anyone knew how to get the best price on one.

I have been w/ ATT for years with a corporate discount through my employer (hp). My latest plan has been expired for months now and i was holding out for the Bold before I renewed.

In my case, would you think it'd be wise to just go into an ATT store? I usually go to the one on el camino in santa clara or the one on steven's creek and lawrence.

I'd def value your insight here.

Yeah, try the ATT store to see if they will honor the discount on the phone. Most ATT will not, but there is a way around it... Im sure Best Buy would have the best deal on the device (+ you get instant rebates)

The device alone is going to be over 2x the cost over the device w/ 2 yr plan. Can Best Buy renew my contract w/ ATT? I didn't think they had access to the actual ATT system like that.

yes they can not many ppl know about it so im letting you know.. they have great deals ( i dont work for Best Buy)

Hey, the new bold comes out Nov 4th officially. it's gonna be 299.99 with a contract (UGH!) Honestly, you would probably be better off getting it through Best Buy, Costco etc because they can sell the actual unit much cheaper. However, if you have any uh, billing issues etc feel free to get a hold of me-Cheers!

Not sure, as it is going to be the hottest handheld/flavor of the month (this one actually works unlike another phone plagued with problems...cough iPhone 3G...cough). And yes, I've used the branded one for awhile, I've also used our new FUZE. Honestly, a really neat phone is the Samsung EPIX. Alas, it's probably going to be completely overshadowed by the iFail, and the Bold.

yea i hear ya on the ipwn...even i felt the effects of that silly phone hogging up ATT's 3g network. Before I finally forced my current phone to the edge network, i would drop my calls all the damn time and have poor 3g signal.

can't wait to have a bold in my hand already. :)

I work for ATT also and without knowing what you can get it for at Best buy, the cheapest way from att would be to use the 50% off option from your HP corp discount that would bring the phone down to $275 and then i believe that you can still get ATT $100 mail in rebate on it as well. Bringing the final price down to $175.

thanks for the advice. unfortunately, the hp corp discount doesn't currently have any device discounts for this specific phone (they're samsung blackjack II fans apparently).

I actually ended up picking up the last one on launch day at my nearby ATT store. Paid the full price and added the unlimited data plan (at least i get a discount there!).

Yes it does!!! I get those complaints everyday. I think its the device. I have no problem with service on my Blackberry or 8925. 3g is fine. Well atleast in my area.

Apple hasn't admitted nor denied that the new assembly is faulty by design. The original excuse they tried blaming the processor manufacturer ARM. But, ARM powers over 80% of handhelds and none of them experience the same problems. Then they tried blaming the German company that produced their 3g chipset. Again, this 3g chipset is used in almost ALL cellphones, pdas..etc (ex: the new BB bold). They then said (and I really can't believe they thought this would work) the new software update would fix these problems. Needless to say I've seen it actually cause more problems. The 2G honestly is by far much better and more durable. Plus the visual voicemail system they designed is really screwing up the network. IT at the deathstar complains about it everyday. To give you an idea over 20 service tickets a day are issued just for visual voicemail system errors.
The 3g iPhone is also the reason the Bold was delayed for so long. Afraid that it simply would have the same issues as the 3g iPhone. However, Blackberry next to palm started the PDA's, Apple never has made phones so you would think they would test the iPhone more. But, marketing wanted/ needed to make some quick cash plus guaranteed money because you HAVE to get a data plan with an iPhone with a BB you don't. And i no longer work for At&t.

lol they also blamed the manufacturer of the 3g antenna at some point. I have the bold now, the phone is amazing, great for school with word excel and ppt pre installed for you.

Another fat discount is for employees of the Odwalla company i think its something like 28%

yah my 2g iphone was soooo much better! I have problems every day with my 3g...they really need to address the issue! I have never had any problems with my visual voicemail though...knock on wood!

++Insider tip++ For anyone with an 8gb iPhone (original or 3G) still under warranty.

If your iPhone is acting up and you need to go to an Apple store. Call ahead and ask that location if they have any 8gb iPhones in stock. If they do NOT, go to that location. If they have to swap out your phone, they will have to upgrade you to a 16gb at no additional cost.
Explaining why they do this: Apple does not service walk-ins, you must make an appointment at the 'Genius Bar' since you have an appointment the expectation is Apple will and should be able to service any problem you may have with your Apple product. Also your time is money, if your product must be replaced its replaced on the spot with the same unit or one of equal or greater value.

Crap I lost my cell yesterday at Northstar...

I've been calling my cell every now and then, hoping someone found it and would be kind enough to answer it, but to no avail. Plus I had it on silence mode. If I lost it on the slopes it's pretty much gone forever. I'm just hoping I dropped it in the village.

I haven't reported it as lost yet, but I'm monitoring my account via ATT.com and so far no one has made calls or sent PMs w/ it.

I'm kind of pissed since AT&T doesn't seem to have my phone in their online stock, plus I didn't realise when I got it as an upgrade that it costs $270.
I had a gray Sony Ericsson W580i WHT:



I did find that model online for $180, but I'm not sure if I could set-it up w/ ATT. Now AT&T has refurbished iPhone 3G 8gb for $200, but the warranty is only 90 days. What do you guys think about refurbished phone? I'm not even sure I want an iPhone, I'd prefer to just get my cell back to be honest.

Any insight from our fellow ATT AZers?

Hasn't the w580i been out for hella cheap lately refurbished with rebate? I'm pretty sure I've seen it on slickdeals.com. Anyways, if you were happy with the phone, i would just ebay a replacement or find a reasonably cheap replacement.

I have seen people exchange phones with "problems", get a refurb and then have issues that are way worse than their original "problems"

But working in a store im sure i only see the people with problems, not the ones that have perfectly working refurb phones.
