Do I need to change my fuel filter with fuel pump?

The audi went nuts last week and started to "cut in and out" when I gave it gas. I limped it to my mech and they have taken 3 days to find out that it is a bad fuel pump. Well, the new fuel pump is being installed in the morning and I have not yet replaced my fuel filter since I have had the car (98K miles). I have put about 48K on it and I have no idea if the fuel filter has ever been changed. Am I retarded to not have them throw in the new fuel filter with this new pump? Tell me fast so I can plan on going to the stealership in the morning to get the right fuel filter.

With 98k on the clock and no recollection if the fuel filter was replaced, spend the $40 and replace it now with the new fuel pump. It is good insurance and I recommend a new fuel filter if replacing the pump.

$40!!! Is that really what I should expect the dealership to charge me in the morning?

if you could do it yourself that would be better, it takes like 20 min, theres no point of goin to the dealership cause they will charge you for an hour which is a ripoff and everything will come out to 150 or something, so no point,
    but its up to you

Re: Do I need to change my fuel filter with fuel pump?

I pay $40 for my filter. Dealerships' prices vary amongst each dealership. some are higher. some are lower. it all depends. since the car is there and getting a fuel pump just do it regardless.

imo: they should not charge any labor outside of the fuel pump. the filter takes 5mins to change.
