I want to replace my OEM speakers in the symphony system. Is there a way to only replace the speakers without buying an amp or changing the deck? I want new speakers because there is no bass with the stock ones and i don't want to buy a sub set up.

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

usually decks are amped, you can read the specs for the wattage output. i would go with the separate amp though, otherwise there is no point for an upgrade anyway

you can retro 5 1/4 front 6 1/2 in the rear doors, plus deck

bottom line is you should replace everything, otherwise you are not going to get what you pay for

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

The stock symphony system has an equalizer where you can change the settings for front and rear speakers. Not sure if you have done this but it helped a lot I thought. The easter egg sticky tells you how. However I am also considering upgrading but can't decide if doing just the speakers is worth while.

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

For the amount you will spend replacing all the speakers to get a small amount of bass you should just get a sub. You could find a hard hitting 12 w/ amp for 250-300 on craigslist, or a smaller 8 or 10" if you really don't need much bass for probably 250 NEW, or 100-150 used.

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

Check partsexpress, daytonaudio, madisound, or solen for cheap and efficient speakers. Efficiency is important here and should be above 95.

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

if you're not looking for power but good sound quality, kicker speakers are the way to go, i paid about 200 bucks for the front door speakers and rear deck speakers. and for about 50 bucks i had quantum tweaters installed in the front doors by the handles. Even though i just had my subs taken out not too long ago, the sound quality is amazing and crisp.

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

Just so we are clear, you can do just the speakers at first? The symphony system is crazy like the bose ones I have had in past cars that had these mini amps on every speaker?

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

I actually just finished up my install last week

I ended up going with was:

Rockford Fosgate 152S's for the front component speakers
Rockford Fosgate Punch P325.2 amp to power the fronts
Rockford Fosgate 152C's for the rear
2 12" Audiobahn (dont remember the model number of hand, but 800w RMS) subs
A Soundstorm Lab F2800 amp for the subs

...and a fancy Pioneer AVH-P4000DVD headunit

Everyone who catches a ride absolutely LOVES it....as do i

    Absolutely!

You can even run lines off the symphony/bose HU to an aftermarket amp, then from the amp run lines to the new speakers.

Or you can splice up some speakers w/o an amp...wont be using the speakers to their max potential but it'll work (will be atleast better than stock)

    Re: Aftermarket Audio

I personally plan to do everything eventually, just curious if I decide to replace just the speakers first if it's an option or if it is an all or none deal. Not high on the list but it is there.
