    Question 03 Audi A6 2.7T MIL Indicator P0741

I just recently purchased my a6. While I was driving it home the MIL indicator came on after about 40 miles of driving. When I went to have it inspected to get my tags and title the diagnostics said it was P0741 Torque Converter Circuit Performance or Stuck Off. I asked them if they found anything wrong with the tranny or if it was driving funny they said no. I drove it for a week and there was no problems shifting, accelerating, or anything that would make me worry about the MIL. Just yesterday it went off and now it is back on again today. I read a lot of threads about the MIL code and most people changed their tranny fluid or added fluid and the MIL indicator went off. Does anyone have any experience with this code or with this problem and if so has anyone needed to replace the tranny or the torque converter.

    thanx

You need a new torque converter, don't drive the car. It happened to me about 5 months ago and thank god for CPO warranty, they had to change the torque converter and it was a big job. Did this happen to you on the day you purchased the car, and did you buy it from Audi???

You most likely will not feel anything but the TC is not functioning property and can case further transmission problems. You need a new TC and its about 900 for an OEM unless you want to upgrade and then 12hrs of labor so 1200 on up depending on where you install.

I would venture to say that the dealer you purchased from knows nothing about Audi's or they absolutely undersand and just want you to deal with it. I would take the car back immediately becasue it could be classified as a lemon. Depending on your state and who you have for service they may tell you a whole new transmission becasue they are not comfortable working on Audi TC. Even AOA might say all new tranny. In that case 7000-8000.

I have the same code and have done countless hours of reesearch so if you have more questions fire away!

Good luck and I cannot stress enough how serious this is. Take the car back!!!

    40 miles is BS

Take the car back now and tell them to either cut you a check for the new TC job or take the car back. They probably cleared the code or added some tranny fluid to delay the code from coming back before you jumped in and drove off.

Yeah its been about a week and some change since I got the car. Those cocksuckers.. I did call them and tell them the problem and the guy was acting non shaulant about it. I would like to take it back and say here is your car but I dont think I an exactly do that.. Im off work tommorow and will probably see waht I can do about it. I tried to get the inspectoin statoin to clear the code but they could not clear it, they said it kept coming back on, so I dunno about the dealer clearing it.. they possibly could have added fluid or done something different.. who knows with all these cocksuckers now a days trying to rip someone off. Ill check into the Lemon laws.

i should have kept my lexus.. thing never gave me a problem.

No point in clearing code. Will come back right away.

You better act fast on this becasue the more time you waste just plan on keeping the car. I would contact the BBB the Depart of Commerce and anyone else you can.

You mean you purchased a vehicle and they dont even give you like a 2 day or 100 mile warranty???

Yeah I checked the Lemon Laws in MD.. they only apply to new vehicles. Anyway while I was at work I noticed that my car had been involved in a hit and run... not to major but enough to piss me off, mostly paint transfer. Yeah im gonna have to look at the BBB. I have had bad experiences with them tho. The last time I took a complaint to them it never got resolved. I will see what I can do tommorow though.

As for the 2 day warranty thing, ill have to check it out. Im not sure... have too look at the contract

Sorry to break it to you, but you need a new torque converter. I had the same thing take place roughly 4 months ago to me. My car had 75K miles on it when I had to have the TC replaced. I got the same code as you. Had the code cleared and was told if it came back on I was in for a big repair bill. The CEL came back on, they flushed the tranny fluid atleast 5 times, each time the CEL came back on. I believe the total cost with parts and labor was $2400.

Hope you can find a way to have the dealer who sold it to you pay a portion or all of the repair bill.
