today driving to school i was goin about 130 km/h and my engine just started to randomly decelerate, and my EPC light as well as traction control light both turned on. i pulled over, restarted the car, and everything was all good again. anyone know what this means?

means there was an power or electric issue. This caused the ECU to shut off the control of the dbw throttle. You reset it when you turned the car off and then back on.


This most likely thru a DTC, so you might want to use a vagcom to see what codes were thrown.

check your codes. most likely it will come back saying something about transmission speed sensor..in which case needs to be replaced

nothing about transmission speed sensor, an indie shop did it for me, two codes were pulled, one said something about torque being to high??? i forget the other one...

Torque Limiter and thats exactly what caused the issue.

I haven't seen many B6's have this problem, but a few B5's have.

nope no chip, nothin but a blow-off valve, which i know is pretty stupid but whatever...

I am just going to take a wild guess and say that you had the car in cruise control?

I posted a thread about that issue some weeks ago and it was told that the rear light could be in cause. Are all your light bulbs ok? Your issue happend to me the first time I put the cruise control on after getting chipped, and 4-5 times while a 5 hours trip with a rear bulb off... I'll try to find for your the thread concerned...

engine speed sensor...? I had a similar issue and it would happen occasionally when I used my cruise control, the rpms would drop to 0 and if I was going slow the car would die, if I was cruising, it would seem like it was going to die but be alright.

just found out today that my left rear fog light doesn't work...
could that have anything to do with it?

^no. probably a bulb out.

and im willing to bet its the speed sensor. $80ish and 1hour labor. not bad. i just helped a friend who was having similar issues along with occasional hard start replace his. hasnt had a problem since.

this is exactly what happened to me..had nothing to do with cruise control but the car dying at stops and would occasionally go into limp mode. I replaced the engine speed sensor and everything was fine
