    Squeaky Coilovers Part II: question....

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I first posted on this about 6 weeks ago. Installed Vogtland coils in mid-July and about a month later the fronts began to squeak like a motherf*cker. Some suggested lubing the hardware to fix the problem. I called PureMS directly to ask their opinion. Called their Service number. The gentleman I spoke to said the squeaking is likely the rubber portion of the control arms. Rubbing on what I have no idea but he said when you alter the stock ride height it changes the position of the control arms. He indicated there should be some adjustments made to the stock control arms when coils are installed. He insisted it is not the coilovers that are squeaking.

Does this make sense to any of you guys?

had squeaking problem with h&r coilovers on my B7S4. Turned out to be lack of lube in/around where the shock pole entered through the rubber. Quick lube spray fixed it, but it'll be a constant problem IMO.

When you installed your suspension did you make sure to finish tightening the bolts when the car was sitting on the ground and not in the air? Don't know if is causing the issue but it may be worth a try.

Re: Squeaky Coilovers Part II: question....

I confirmed it was the control arms. The guys who installed the coils lubed everything up and the squeaks went away for about a month. They're back with a vengeance now, though. I am going to call PureMS and speak with them again to find out EXACTLY what needs to be done to the control arms to eliminate this problem altogether.

Re: Squeaky Coilovers Part II: question....

What usually happens is the upper control arms are not re-installed at the new lower height before tightening down on the upper bolts. That is why it is recommended to have the car on the ground before final tightening. The rubber in the bushings actually splits or cracks causing the squeaks. The only real solution is to replace the upper arms. The lower arms are not usually as prone to failure as the uppers.
