    quick tire question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was looking to pick up some new snow tires for my stock wheels. Came upon a sweet deal for 205/50/17 michelin pilot alpins. Will those fit on the stock wheel? Also, is 8/32 a lot of tread left? Sorry for the noob questions, I don't know much about tire sizing. TIA

    Re: quick tire question

It will fit as it has the same overall diameter as the stock wheel.

Yup, should do fine for a winter set up. 8/32 probably about 50% tread left depending on original tread depth.

A skinnier tire is also said to help steering/ handling in deep snow.... Doubt its a noticeable difference on a street car tho. I'll be running 205s this winter, but on 16s. :(

Correct, it will fit, but it will be just a tiny bit taller (0.7% taller, or 2mm). Not worth worrying about though, so I say go for it.

FYI, stock tires are 225/45/17, so these tires will be thinner and slightly taller, which is generally better in the snow anyways.

I don't know..those look a lil bit too worn to use in winter..I'd rather have new set of all seasons than those..How much snow do you see over the winter?

    Re: quick tire question

I go to school in western mass, and live in RI. Rhode Island, not much snow, Mass we had more. The plowing is decent. I'm more concerned with highway driving during snow, not getting out of a house with deep drifts. I was thinking due to my location in mass, snow tires would be better than all seasons. Anything is better than my eagle f1s, haha.

    Re: quick tire question

Price is right... Shipping can't be much less than that. Looks like maybe less than 8/32" from pic, but hard to tell.... 10/32" is standard new depth for most car tires, but snow tires and some truck tires may have started at 12/32"? I think 4/32" is minimum recomended effective depth for most winter tires so you should be able to get a year out of those easy..
