    BAT headed for victory

decided to take a spur of the moment (decided a couple days ago) trip today to fayetteville speed park to run the 1/4...

shake down runs were something else, learning to drive this car on a prepped track had me going back to my DSM days as far as driving style. keeping the tires planted on a launch was NOT happening on the 19's/General UHP's even after doing a couple burnouts before hand... it was either bog or spin through first and into second.

that being said -- best for the day was as follows.
    60' - 1.859
    330' - 5.474
    1/8ET - 8.465
    1/8MPH - 83.78
    1/4ET - 13.115
    1/4MPH - 104.65

not bad for first time out with the A4 - AND keep in mind i had a few hindering factors..

    tires/wheels (aka. traction)
full tank of gas (93 octane)
22psi when i ran my best, went to 24psi later and had even more traction issues lol (but JESUS is the car fast now)
had EXTRA weight in the car (floor jack, jack stands, spare, tools, etc) incase something went wrong which seems to be the trend with us b6 guys at the track.

i think on a tank of 104, 30+ psi, the 17's/slicks, and with all the extra crap out of the back i might be in good shape anyone wanna change their bet for next sunday? looks like all you doubters are already in hot water... but you've still got a week to get a more reasonable guess in hahaha

pics/video/slip later on, im tired as hell now.

    On the right track...

Seems your setup is right on par with a GTRS on pump as of now.

^that's basically what i noticed, and that makes me extremely happy. i was hoping to crack a 13 flat before the day was over (maybe even a high 12 with a tail wind LOL) but for how i was running the car that was WAY more than i expected. turning the boost up just that little bit made a WORLD of difference in how the car is driving and reacting..

this just has me wondering what some of the 2.0L guys are gonna start churning out for #'s

so can we chalk one up to the BAT's FINALLY for a decent run? i mean, i've still got next week... but for a run on a full tank of pump i didn't think it was bad at all

I dont want to be hard on you but with a BAT, nothing in the 13s is a descent run. I ran a 13.3 with my GTRS on 93 octane (no meth), full interior, spare tire and 70lb subwoofer in the trunk and 1/2 tank of gas. O and that was with only 100mph as the trap speed.

What kind of timing does your car run? The B5 I ran was 24psi and 16-20 degrees of timing with a stock AEB 1.8t with 3071r

yeah, but we've determined that a better driver probably could have gotten a better time out if it. i'd be willing to bet i could get 12's if i could stay in boost completely going into 2nd. gonna try blocking some of the BOV ports too to see if that'll help any.

Daniel, there were a couple of things you had mentioned in the other post that worry me a bit...

First off, do not try to heat up the tires in an A4 befopre you launch, there is absolutely no need for it, all you are doing is asking to kill your clutch or break something in the tranny. The reason I am saying this is that the box is by far the stickiest part of the track, if you ever get a chance to walk there, your shoes will stick to the pavement and nearly come off of your feet, nothing good can come from it...

Second, do not slip the clutch on the line, we do not have a slipper clutch and trust me, this is one of the easiest ways to kill your shit right off of the go...

Damn thats a low ET, I definitely dont get that! Glad everyone is finally getting out and doing something with their setups, dyno, drag, whatever ... and I expected you to crush my 111 trap, even on the settings you were on. Damn if I had traction I could run a good time, and to think I still have a stock motor just with rods in it! lol

thanks for the advice, i had worried about things like that... but what would you recommend i do instead? i've walked in the box before and i know what it's like... this isn't my first time racing, just my first time with the a4. i really didn't see much else of an option, i tried SEVERAL times to no avail to launch the car hard enough to not bog - but all i got was insane wheel spin (2.2 60' style) no matter how hard i tried to keep it to a minimum. the best that i could get it to do was to heat up the tires and try to find some balance of slip/dump where it would keep them from spinning.

obviously i wouldn't flog my car like that if i didn't feel i had to - but it was either spin or bog and neither was an option for me... so i did what i could to keep spinning down while launching hard enough to not bog.

lol yeah, like i said - i was having trouble getting this thing going without either bogging or spinning. even with my 13.1 i didn't have a good launch (like on the street) and i was a little disappointed that i didn't drive a little better.

i was happy with the overall end result though, and don't worry... im still gunning for your trap. i picked up 7mph today between my worst trap (that wasn't when i blew off a coupler) and my best, with only a .2 difference in 60' times and a good run otherwise... im sure that someone more capable could have really brought out something impressive - but i'm trying my best.

You have to pick a RPM to start from, say 4500, then move up in 500rpm increments until you get the best you can, then fine tune it in 100rpm increments bot ways until you find the no bog light spin launch. You'll have to spin no matter what.

i'll give that a try next week, it was just so frustrating bogging off the line and seeing those horrible times when i KNEW the car could do better... its still got more left in it - how much more i dont know. headed to a dyno hopefully tuesday or wednesday this week to find out what i'm making at the moment

if that one got recorded - gladly. i know the 13.11 is on video, and i think my buddy might have gotten this s10 that smashed into a wall and had his nitrous tank explode. other than that we were all racing so nobody was really filming.

in defense of myself and your theory (and obvious sarcasm) the right lane (the one this kept happening in) was MUCH slicker than the left and a couple cars had to get driven away from/pushed off the line for pissing on the track. who knows if they got it all up or not.

all i know is how i got my best launch and that it worked, but given your advice i'll gladly try to refine my driving and do it the right way... i just don't know how well that'll work out with how the car was driving today.

Watch the third pass in this video...this car hazes the tires to the point that it looks as if it is not moving...

    Re: BAT headed for victory

I spun for a long time bouncing the rev limiter on my very first run in the B5. They made me go in the left lane where you cant avoid the water and I did a little burn out and still had massive wheel spin. I believe it was a 2.0 60ft.

And about the burnout before staging, well since day one I have ALWAYS done a burnout before staging except a few times. Especially if I had to go through water, then I would do 2 burnouts before staging. When not doing a burnout I have crossed the car up sideways before coming off the line.

i was happy with the overall end result though, and don't worry... im still gunning for your trap. i picked up 7mph today between my worst trap (that wasn't when i blew off a coupler) and my best, with only a .2 difference in 60' times and a good run otherwise... im sure that someone more capable could have really brought out something impressive - but i'm trying my best.
haha I dont want to hear it, I can spin more, way more, and bog more as I dont have the RPM's you do. I fall way out of boost everytime I shift. If I could keep the turbo spooled or have less spooltime between shifts my car would be hella fast. I think half the track Im out of boost

BTW what were you reving to?

had the same issue what we did is use auto data pro and look up what each hole in the connector is and what u need is a screwdriver with the light in it that turns on when it hits power, find the one that provides power to the port and check it out. let me tell u hope it is one of the power wires, because if it is any other port it can be either a fault with the wiring, the cluster, or the radio.

And as of now people with BAT haven't beat Eliminator times by much, so in terms of being cost effective the GTRS or GT71R seems to be the best way to go.

The main problem with the B6 is that for $5000 you can make 330AWHP. If you want to make any more than that, add another $7,000 to the equation.

Not shifting fast enough or to big of BOV.

If you run street tires they should guide you between the lanes to avoid getting extra water on the track. I never attempt burnouts. you're not going to get the tires that hot anyway, plus all it does is make street tires gooey, not sticky.

7400. hit the limiter atleast once almost every run. if i didn't hit it i fell way out of boost... something needs to change (im thinking the hose clamp on the BOV will help)
