Need some tire help (see pics)

Driving on the highway at 3am and my tire blew out. What should I do about replacing this tire since the other 3 have about 14k miles on them? Will I have any problems if I were to buy a different brand of tire? I also received a ticket for my window tint earlier in the night. It was a bad night

Don't replace just the one tire. You have to do both on the same axle. Also, I wouldn't get a different brand because they will wear differently.

Wow! I've never had a tire blow but can't fathom it's fun. Good thing you're safe. The best and cheapest option is probably to find a used matching tire one. Look on eBay and CL. I agree that buying a different brand is not a good idea but I don't agree that you have to replace both. I presume dubfreak posted that because AWD require the same overall diameter on all four corners but there is a variance allowance of ~5% which more than accommodates for tire wear.

I'm sorry to hear about your bad night but glad that you are safe!

I could be wrong, but it seems like your tires are probably near the end of their life by looking at the edge of the blown tire. It may be a perfect time to replace all four tires now. If you are on a budget, replacing both on the same axle and putting the two new tires on the rear axle are always recommended for your own safety as well as others'.

Tread life is supposed to be within 20% of each other on an AWD system.. if you're on stock tires, get them replaced

could be a number of reasons..

hit a pothole, inproper inflation / underinflation (riding on sidewalls), or just a bad tire, etc.

Thanks for the help. I will probably buy 2 new tires now and the other 2 in a few weeks. Plus I have to pay for the tint ticket. I have the stock mich. pilot sport tires. Any place I can get them for cheap? (I'll search online)

i would buy two new tires and move them to the rear of the vehicle and replace the other two as needed

Damn that is ugly. My suggestion is to get a whole new set of 4. Not only will you be free from an uneven ride, possibly hurting quattro, and uneven treadwear; you will have a set of tires that is fresh and I don't know how much I would want to be on tires that blew out that easily lol.

EDIT: You are pretty low on tread there so you might as well replace all of them.

I actually have a set of four tires in my garage with about 3k miles on them ( Same exact ones I have in my car ), I need to sell them, since they did not fit my brothers GLI.

Just as a friendly word, I got Goodyear Eagle F1 All seasons (the regular ones weren't avail. at the time) which are great. They are def. less sticky when you get close to freezing, but overall they're very impressive in the dry and wet and have been wearing very slowly.

costco has tires for a good price, plus, i believe they offer free installation and lifetime balancing and rotation for them as well.

Yes, I'm lowered. I'm not sure if I hit something in the road or if it just blew, it was raining pretty hard that night.
I live in FL, so I don't think I need any all season tires. Thanks again for the suggestions
