Vag-COM Excessive Comm Errors

So I finally stopped being lazy and replaced the hard drive on my old laptop to get it back up and running. I went to my car to screw around with Vag-Com and while trying to find fault codes it keeps saying "Excessive Comm Errors", or something similar. I'm running it on an EBay cable and the full version of the software on a Windows XP computer. Any idea what could be happening?

Oh, and as a side note, does anyone know of a quick n00b guide to logging? Thanks.

i would bet $$ your ebay cable only supports up to 4xx or maybe the 5xx version. if you are running the current 8xx version or whatever it is now, then that may be your problem.

I'm running version 3.11 because I read that newer ones don't work. Think that could still be the problem?

check for other programs that may be running that would use a USB port. I had the exact same problem one day after installing my wireless mouse driver and software (Logitech) and was wondering WTF. Found out, it was the software running in the background that caused the errors. Once I quit the mouse software, worked fine.

my ebay cable used to do that all the time, but my real ross-tech cable works perfectly.

Great, hoping to have my coils installed by next week, but I probably won't go super low for the Winter time. The hopefully by summer I'll have some nice IForged wheels ready for mounting =). How about yours?

Hmm, yea, I guess I can't expect much out of an ebay cable, I mean, it did allow me to recode everything I wanted so I'm happy about that. I just really want to log because when under WOT it sounds like somewhere in 2nd I hear a loud clunk/vibrating noise from under the hood. It's weird, I never noticed it before installing new spark plugs, but then again I'm always listening to my iPod excessively loud. Thanks for the responses.

Maverick: I got your PM, but everything you have FS I don't really have an interest in. Let me know if you have anything else in the future, because it was great doing business with you on the coils.

Oh yea, rear end is looking better than ever. I never went for the S4 rear (or anything else) since I would've had to have payed extra, but now that I saw that CF S4 rear valence, it makes me wish I could see it on a black car. I think it would look incredible. Who knows, if I get this new job I'm going for, the mods could start coming much quicker than they have been.
