Did a little bit of modding today...

With all of this talk about cars getting pulled over for illegal modifications (front mount intercoolers, exhausts, test pipes, cold air intakes), I decided to make my car fly even lower under the radar...

Posting pics of what I do is new to me, so if they suck...oh well!!!

Decided to plasti-dip my hose clamps, this way they cannot be seen though the grills

Before pics, car is nice and dirty...

Three more coats and good to go...while they were drying, I took pictures of junkyard turbo kit I helped a friend build this summer...BMW 2002, Holset HX30, home made everything including the FMIC (the cast endtanks were purchased), I did most of the metal cutting, Charlie (owner of the car did the welding).

Runs on Megasquirt SEM that we built, even uses a N75 to control the boost with the megasquirt.

Car is street tuned and runs awesome, 20 PSI at 3,000 RPM, makes about 300WHP, throttle modulated boost, MAP is fully finished.

The 2002 started out as a $500 shell...

This is what we did to it...everything including the paint work was done in his shop (shop is in the backyard...)

I run the Evolution Racewerkes Competition Series basic kit. The intercooler and piping are anodized black.

I bought a 99 Honda Civic for a DD. The previous owner, my friend Josh was building a SQ car for stereo comp. He had done some custom interior that wasn't finished. Long story short, I used Plasti-Dip on all the pillar tirm plastics. They were like gray and the black now matches the seat etc. I will be dyeing the suede headliner black also. If the dye takes and colors well, I might try it on the Audi headlinder and trim. Plasti-Dip really is some great stuff.

that bmw looks awesome! great build with that thing, i'd like to see some more about it. i absolutely LOVE those cars after getting a ride in one up in the mountains last fall.... whew... that thing was more or less stock and it was a RUSH through those bends.

love the intercooler too, im getting to the point where i want to disguise what's done to the car a little bit more... gotta work on a bumper that'll fit over the IC first hahahaha.

My question as an East Coast member is.... "are the cops in Cali really that serious about targeting modded cars?"

There are soooooo many modded cars here on the east coast that go un-noticed (not sure that's the correct word to use) by law-enforcement.

yes, because they feel if someone is willing to mod the car for looks they most likely modified the performance too.

Very much so. It was far worse in areas where street racing was prevalent but really they'll pull you over for any reason they can muster.

The month they started enforcing the front plate law [few years back] I got pulled over 4 times in 2 weeks... and one of those was by a motorcycle cop at LAX. Ridiculous.

actually they are all clouded on the inside...I have S4 bi-xenon ecodes but have not finished my CF overlay of the chrome trim rings. Someday I may get around to installing them.

Believe me no one outside of the audi community gets it. Mine says A4RingR on my plate and nearly every person that talks to me asks if it is an S4.

i like the stealthiness, but I think your plate does the opposite.

We all know an A4 does not come stock with 400 hp. Lots of mods, some illegal, such as what you listed in the op must be put on to achieve this.

Well thats the thing, even if a cop looked under his hood he wouldn't see anything that would scream "Not Stock". I know this because we open the hood of Gregs car at the drag races all the time and no one there notices it has a larger turbo installed.

i hear htat... my plate says 'a4mods' and people ask me if its an s4...

last week at the track I had my hood open and a guy said "2.0?" said no 1.8T... then he says... "well I knew it was an s4"....

hah... nope
